Caught On Tape: Homeless Man Beaten With Bats

Three Men Attacked In Fort Lauderdale; One Dies

January 12, 2006

Police in Fort Lauderdale are investigating a series of overnight attacks that left one homeless man dead. One of the beatings was caught on tape.

The men were beaten at three locations early Thursday morning -- the Florida Atlantic University campus at Los Olas, Church by the Sea at 17th Street and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Police said the men were beaten by two to four white men armed with bats or sticks.

Surveillance video from FAU showed one of the attacks. In the video, two white men are seen beating the homeless man with what appear to be bats.

Despite his injuries, the man was able to contact campus security, who called Fort Lauderdale police at about 1 a.m. The man is listed in serious condition at Broward General Hospital.

At 2 a.m., police received another call in the 400 block of Southwest Second Street near Riverwalk. Norris Gaynor, 45, died from his injuries at Broward General Medical Center, police said.

\"It is a terrible thing that happened and they will be punished accordingly,\" police Detective Kathy Collins said. She said Gaynor\'s death will bring homicide charges against the attackers.

A third victim was attacked while he was sleeping in a parking lot at Church by the Sea. That man is in serious condition.

\"We cannot say for certain that these are related, however there are a lot of similarities,\" Collins said. \"The victims were homeless. The suspects were two to four white males and the nature of the crime, that they were beatings. We are linking them and we\'re trying to gather information right now.\"

Ten years ago, Sean Cononie founded The Homeless Voice, an advocacy group that also provides shelter for the homeless. On Thursday, Cononie hit the streets to give out fliers to alert the homeless community about the beatings.

\"I could never answer why somebody commits a hate crime, especially when they give you an answer \'for fun,\'\" Cononie said. \"They\'ve been decapitated before. They\'ve been lit on fire. They\'ve been pushed in rivers as they sleep and drowned.\"

Police are asking for the public\'s help in finding the attackers.

\"We\'re following up on all the leads that we get. We have received some leads already, some tips from the public. We would like the public to continue calling us with any information they have. If they think that they may recognize someone but they\'re not sure, call us anyway,\" Collins said.

If you recognize the men in the video, call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 25 homeless people in the U.S. were killed in attacks in 2004.

THIS WEEKS HOT NEWS

This Weeks Hot News

I. Israel was badly shaken on January 4, when Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was suddenly stricken with a massive cerebral hemorrhage as doctors were performing a heart procedure. Since no Israeli politician has dominated the political process like Sharon, and since no Prime Minister has ever taken the country into such dangerous strategic maneuvering, we must spend a considerable amount of time and space covering this story.

Whether you loved Sharon or hated him, the fact is that he dominated politics like no other Israeli politician in modern history. At times, it seemed Sharon could do no wrong! Even after he reversed direction 180 degrees in a number of critically important policies, his popularity remained high. When he bolted from the Conservative Likud Party to form his new Kadima Party, Sharon remained the ultimate "Teflon" political leader. Let us examine a story which embodies this unbelievable reality.

NEWS BRIEF: "Sharon’s Kadima Is Strangely Impervious to Security Setbacks", DEBKAfile Intelligence, December 31, 2005

"Prime minister Ariel Sharon and his new Kadima party continue to crest the opinion polls. They have for the moment emerged without a scratch from the security mishaps of the past week, even though these incidents accentuate the heightened security perils preying on the country as a result of last summer’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank. Katyusha rockets from Lebanon ... struck two Israeli towns ... Palestinian security forces are idle in the face of the general lawlessness engulfing the Gaza Strip, while the Egyptian military contingent imported to keep the Palestinians up to scratch stand by and watch. A young Israeli officer was killed by a Palestinian suicide bomber in the northern West Bank on his way to an attack in Israel. A New Year countrywide alert refers to 50 terrorist threats, 10 of them specific. The purported security measures brokered by the US secretary of state for the Egyptian-Gazan border crossing at Rafah have crashed."

"All these events occurred in a single week. They were accompanied by the exposure in a damaging press leak of Sharon’s state of health as being a lot more serious than given out by his aides after his stroke two weeks ago .. Nonetheless, the latest polls place the prime minister’s one-man party Kadima miles ahead of the field with a potential 40-42 seats in the 120-member Knesset (the figures vary from poll to poll), Labor plummeting (from 22) to 16-19, and Likud climbing back to 16 and rising."

As you can see, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was as much of a "Teflon Prime Minister" as President Reagan was the "Teflon President".

Nevertheless, Sharon was suddenly stricken while on the operating table. We shall examine the following aspects of this most important developing story:

A. Facts surrounding Sharon's health condition

B. The Kabbalist Curse

C. Curious Timing "Coincidence"

D. Future of Oslo, the Unilateral Disengagement, and the Prophesied Annihilation of the "House of Esau" (Palestinians)

Let us begin:

A. Facts surrounding Sharon's health condition

NEWS BRIEF: "Sharon Kept in Medically Induced Coma", The Guardian (London), January 6, 2005

"JERUSALEM (AP) - Doctors said Thursday that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will be kept in a medically induced coma for up to three days to prevent further damage from a massive stroke. His sons held a bedside vigil and state media broadcast mournful songs. The nation's top rabbis called on Israelis to rush to synagogues and pray for the 77-year-old ex-general ... Sharon's deputy, Ehud Olmert, tried to convey a sense of stability while serving as acting prime minister, but Sharon's dramatic downturn left Israelis fearful.

"The Web site of the respected Haaretz daily quoted hospital officials as saying Sharon suffered vast brain damage. But Dr. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, Hadassah Hospital director, sought to quash widespread rumors that the prime minister was brain-dead. Sharon's pupils were responding to light, 'which means the brain is functioning', he told reporters. 'We are fighting for the life of the prime minister, with no compromise', he said. 'The main treatment that the prime minister is receiving is a medically induced coma and breathing assistance. The goal of this treatment is ... to allow the brain to recover from the great trauma it suffered.''

"... other neurosurgeons not involved in Sharon's treatment said a full recovery was unlikely after such a massive stroke. Sharon aides said they assume he would not return to work.''

"Sharon fell ill Wednesday evening while resting at his ranch in southern Israel ahead of a medical procedure scheduled for Thursday to close a small hole in his heart. Doctors rushed him to Jerusalem, and he suffered the stroke during the hour long drive. Doctors said they stopped the bleeding during surgery. His condition may have been complicated by blood thinners he took after his mild stroke Dec. 18."

The news in the days leading up to Sharon's "cardiac procedure" downplayed any significant risk to Sharon's condition. Many millions of people undergo this type of procedure every year and the vast majority of them survive with little to no ill effects. Therefore, the news that Sharon had suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage during the procedure and was literally lingering between life and death shocked friend and foe alike.

As people asked how this could have happened with absolutely no warning, some recalled the Kabbalist Curse which had been placed against Sharon some months ago. Let us review this very real aspect of Black Magick Satanism.

B. Kabbalist Curse

NEWS BRIEF: "Sharon targeted with 'death curse': Extremists used ritual against Rabin 1 month before he was assassinated", World Net Daily, July 26, 2005

"Fringe activists held a midnight kabbalistic ritual in an ancient cemetery calling for angels of death to kill Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and thwart his Gaza withdrawal plan ... The activists said they performed a 'Pulsa Dinura' – a kabbalistic ceremony in which God is asked to curse a sinner, usually an enemy of the Jewish people – and prayed for a death curse to be placed on Sharon. They argued Sharon's Gaza evacuation will 'destroy Israel and the Jewish people' and will cause Jewish deaths. The Pulsa Dinura was held late Thursday night in an ancient cemetery in the town of Rosh Pina. It was performed by a kabbalist, who recited prayers that were repeated by 20 men, who, in line with kabbalistic tradition, were all over the age of 40, bearded and first purified themselves in a ritual bath."

"Describing the ceremony, participant Baruch Ben Yosef, an activist attorney, told WND, 'It was done in a beautiful cemetery with a thick forest around it, under a full moon. We performed it near the graveside of Shlomo Ben Yosef [the first Jew to be hanged by the British in Palestine after carrying out a revenge attack on an Arab bus.] 'The actual prayer of the Pulsa Dinura was read by the kabbalist. There was a quorum of people that read back the prayer as he read it. And the hope we expressed is that the angels of Kabbalah will remove Sharon from continuing to destroy the Jewish people and the land of Israel' ... Dayan claims he put his life on the line by participating."

"If you curse someone who doesn't deserve it, it will boomerang back at us," he said. "So obviously we are sure what Sharon is doing warrants death."

This description of the "Pulsa Dinura" accurately describes a common "Killing Ceremony" too typical of Black Magick Witchcraft! Please allow me to relate to you an experience told me by former Black Magick wizard, Doc Marquis.

Shortly after assuming the leadership of a Black Magick coven in the Nashua, New Hampshire, area, Doc was approached by one of his stalwart members. This member had a request: he had an enemy which "richly deserved to die", a man who lived in his immediate neighborhood. This coven member asked Doc to perform a "killing ritual", which meant that a demon would actually carry out the murderous deed - no human would ever participate in the murder. Thus, police would never be able to solve the killing; police departments have come to recognize this type of murder, which homicide departments routinely call "Psychic Murders".

Doc decided to fulfill the wishes of his coven member, and called a special meeting to be held on the next New Moon -- not a Full Moon, but a dark New Moon.

As coven members began to arrive at the scene, they discovered Doc had made all the arrangements: he had drawn a nine-foot hexagram on the ground, with candles lit at each point. A circle outside and away from the hexagram had also been drawn on the ground. After each member stepped into the middle of the hexagram, Doc faithfully recited the Killing Ritual. As he finished the recitation, a demon appeared within the circle. He was furious at having to appear in this earthly dimension at the order of a human wizard. He shouted, "Why have you called me here?"

Doc told him they wanted him to kill an enemy. After the demon asked for the victim's name and address, Doc readily complied. Suddenly, the demon erupted into a fury which terribly frightened the practicing Satanists huddled within the hexagram. After quieting down, the demon snarled, "How dare you ask me to kill this man; he is a Born Again Christian, and we cannot touch them"!

Two-thirds of the coven's members left that night, never to return. Doc's confidence was so shaken that he fell to his knees some three weeks later to ask forgiveness in Jesus' Name for his many sins. He became Born Again that moment.

Therefore, such a killing ritual is widely practiced within Black Magick Satanism. And, this news story is correct in another point: if the demon tries to carry out the curse and the victim is powerfully protected so that the attempt is foiled, the person who conducted the ritual will die. The curse will boomerang.

But, now let us return to this specific Jewish killing ritual, known as the "Pulsa Dinura". We turn to Wikipedia Encyclopedia. As you read this explanation, remember that values are turned completely on their head. Kabbalists view themselves as "holy", and their victims as "sinners".

"The origin of this phrase seems to come from the Babylonian Talmud..."

Wikipedia is entirely correct. This ritual -- and the entire Kabbalist system -- was created by apostate Jewish priests during the 70-year period of captivity in Babylon, which God brought upon Israel as Judgment for her many national sins, of which pagan idolatry was the most serious. These rogue priests learned traditional Babylonian Witchcraft and then "Judaized" it, i.e., changing the language, the explanations, and the illustrations into that of Judaism of that ancient time. At this time, none of this new Jewish system of Satanism was written down; it was totally of the Oral Tradition.

After the captivity was ended and Jews allowed to go back to Israel, some of these apostate priests moved back to Jerusalem, taking this Oral Tradition back with them. The Pharisees and Sadducees enthusiastically embraced this secret Jewish Mysticism (Witchcraft) and were practicing this type of Satanism during the time of Jesus' ministry. Controlled by Satan, these Pharisees and Sadducees seriously confronted Jesus during His 3 1/2 year ministry and plotted to deliver Him to the cross of Calvary.

They also formed a Babylonian-type of Secret Society, in order to protect the fact that they were practicing Witchcraft.

Jesus knew the true nature of the Pharisees and Sadducees, of course, and constantly railed against them. Jesus called these men some very bad names:

* "Ye are of your father the devil." (John 8:44)

* "... woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!" (Matt 23:13, 14, 15, 23, 24, 27, 29)

* You are a "child of hell" (Matt 23:15)

* "Woe unto you, ye blind guides" (Matt 23:16) -- "Ye fools and blind" - (Matt 23:19)

* "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?' (Matt 23:33)

Not once did Jesus show these men any compassion, even though He constantly showed great compassion toward the greatest of regular sinners. Why was Jesus so adamantly angry toward these men? He knew that they were secretly practicing Satanism -- the Oral Tradition which later was codified (1100 A.D. circa), written down, and renamed the Kabbala. NOTE: We explain all this in detail in our 3-tape audio series, "Secret Societies Killed Jesus Christ".

Once you understand this concept, portions of the Gospel account will become much more real to you.

Now, let us return to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia for more relevant detail. You will find that the people who practice this type of "killing ritual" are disgusting people, whether they are Gentile or Jew; of course, the "pulsa d'nura" is the name of the Jewish version.

"This section mentions sixty 'pulsey d'nura' (plural) in order to discipline the angel Metatron. A pulsa d'nura is also mentioned once in the Zohar (section 3:263c, Raya Mehemna), one of the classic works of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism). There it is described as a heavenly punishment against a person who does not fulfill their religious obligations. The phrase appears in a small number of other locations in the Talmud and Zohar, but not in the context of a mystical curse. Some adherents of Kabbalah developed the idea of invoking a curse against a sinner, which they termed pulsa diNura. The curse is sometimes used by religious Jews against figures which they object to. Early in the 20th century, agitated Haredi Jews in Jerusalem recited the curse against the linguist Eliezer Ben Yehuda. There have been instances of the curse being recited against archaeologists and authors. Prior to the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, there have been rumors that the curse had been recited against him by right-wing extremists.

"On the night of October 6, 1995, Avigdor Eskin, a member of the Gush Emunim (bloc of the faithful) recited the following maledictions of the Pulsa diNura:

"Angels of distruction will hit him. He is damned wherever he goes. His soul will instantly leave his body...and he will not survive a month. Dark will be his path and God's angel will chase him. A disaster he has never experienced will beget him and all curses known in the Torah will apply to him. I deliver to you, the angels of wrath and ire, Yitzhak, the son of Rosa Rabin, that you may smother him and the specter of him, and cast him into hed, and dry up his wealth, and plague his thoughts, and scatter his mind that he may be steadily diminished until he reaches his death. Put to death the cursed Yitzhak. May he be damned, damned, damned!"

"Rabin was assassinated within the month."

These are disgusting men who call themselves Jews, and whom the world accepts as Jews. Yet, they are not Jews, but are of the type of which Jesus foretold would exist at the End of the Age, in the Book of Revelation. Listen carefully:

"Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie" (Rev 3:9)

These disgusting Jewish pretenders are masquerading as true Jews, and much of the world accepts them as such. They are full of hate and anger and their Talmudic writings have been used by Anti-Semites throughout history to inflame Gentiles enough to commit genocide against all Jews. These men are without excuse and their type of Witchcraft is not only powerful, but indefensible.

But ---- these pretending Kabbalistic Jews are also high-level Illuminati. Kabbalism forms the cornerstone of every occult system in the modern era (1100 - 2006), both Jew and Gentile systems of Magic. Thus, Adolf Hitler revered the Kabbala! It is ironic to the highest degree that the Nazi Holocaust which slaughtered 66% of all Jews worldwide was carried out on the basis of the Jewish Kabbala!

The worldwide Illuminati, which is carrying out the global Plan to stage their Masonic Christ and implement his 1,000-year reign, also has the Kabbala as their belief cornerstone. This global Illuminati leadership is both Gentile and Jewish, with the Jews being the pretending lying Jews, of the synagogue of Satan as Jesus so accurately depicted.

It is these Illuminist, many of which pretend to be Jewish, which Cutting Edge works hard to expose.

Listen to an excerpt from the book, Codex Magica, which does make a distinction between the true Old Testament Faith and the modern "Jewish religion", which is based largely on the Kabbala. I just wish the author had made this distinction on page one.

"It is undeniable that God, Himself, in Revelation 11:8, declares that, in the last days just prior to Christ's return, one of the most wicked places on earth will be Jerusalem and Israel. In Revelation, God calls Jerusalem 'Sodom and Egypt'. Why is Jerusalem and the nation of Israel spiritually 'Sodom and Egypt'? I believe it is because of the Jewish religion, a religion diametrically opposed to the Old Testament faith of Moses, Isaac, and Jacob, and the prophets." (Page 421)

This understanding is absolutely right here: Jesus is of the line of true Old Testament Jews, "of Moses, Isaac, and Jacob, and the prophets."

These Illuminist Kabbalists form " the synagogue of Satan", who lie when they say they are Jews.

Cutting Edge loves the Jews and Israel, but not the current Illuminist leadership, nor the mystical Jews practicing their false, modern brand of the Jewish religion. We recognize the prophetic truth that God is going to judge Israel during the 7-year Tribulation Period, refining her and sifting her and finally allowing Antichrist to kill 66% of them, while preserving the 33% remnant for His own (Zechariah 13:8-9).

When the only Jew left alive is the remnant, then will be fulfilled Paul's prophecy "and so all Israel shall be saved" (Romans 11:26), and then the prophecy shall be fulfilled that members of this remnant shall look upon Jesus when He returns in great glory, "whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son". (Zech 12:10)

God is not yet finished with Israel. Until that time, I shall pray for the redeemed Israel, not the Israel which is today ruled by Illuminists. I shall pray for the redemption of the true Jew, not those practicing mystic Judaism and gathering under the Satanic hexagram as their national symbol -- remember, the hexagram is the most evil symbol in all the world, and its use as Israel's national symbol tells the discerning person that Israel's leadership is also practicing Satanism -- the exceedingly powerful Illuminist version.

Telling the truth about these pretending Jews and their role in the global effort to produce Antichrist is not anti-Semitism, nor does it denigrate our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our beloved Jesus was a Rabbi during his earthly ministry, of the pure spiritual line emanating from Moses, Abraham, and the Prophets. It is He whom we love and we love the Jews who practice this type of historically pure Judaism.

Mature Christians the world over must make this distinction. Christians must understand the difference between the true Jew and the pretender Jew. Jesus will destroy the pretending Kabbalist, Illuminist Jew at the mid-point of the Tribulation, after Antichrist has walked into the reconstructed Temple to commit the "Abomination of Desolation", and then leaves the Temple to oversee the greatest attempt in the world to annihilate all Jews.

God will protect His one-third remnant.

In the meantime, one is not anti-Semitic when he describes the awful activities of the Illuminist Jew. Jews and Gentiles are working together to produce the New World Order, a.k.a, the Kingdom of Antichrist. The list of historical figures who have worked on behalf of the Illuminati is long and contains many names of both Jews and Gentiles. However, former Satanists Doc Marquis and Cisco Wheeler report that the top leader in the entire Illuminist world is not a Jew, but a Gentile -- Prince Charles of Great Britain! Thus, no matter how many pretending Jews have been, or currently are, in the leadership of the global apparatus, they all work for this top-ranking gentile.

C. Curious Timing "Coincidence"

On the very day Sharon walked into the hospital for his heart procedure, stories broke throughout Israel declaring that strong evidence existed linking Prime Minister Sharon to a $3 million bribe!

NEWS BRIEF: "Police Say There´s Evidence Linking Sharon to $3 Million Bribe", by Hillel Fendel, Israel National News, January 4, 2006

"The police say they know of evidence linking PM Ariel Sharon to the receipt of a $3 million bribe. So reported Channel 10 Tuesday night, causing a storm of reaction and calls for Sharon to resign. The investigation of the money trail to Sharon has been underway for over three years, and in fact was first publicized before the last national election, in 2003 ... The police say the money was used partially to help Sharon pay back campaign contributions that he had received illegally in 1999, and partly for the Sharon family's private use ... The senior Austrian judicial investigator in the case feels that Sharon had likely been bribed. Israel asked Austria in August 2004 for assistance in the investigation of what was thought to be a loan, which originated in the Vienna-based BAWAG bank. The prosecutor, Gerhard Jarosch, said there was "no plausible reason, other than bribery, that so much money should go to the Sharon family. The reasons given by the Sharons were meager and insufficient."

"Martin Schlaff is a major shareholder in the Oasis Casino in Jericho. Police suspect that he gave Sharon the money in the hope that the casino would be re-opened. The casino was closed in late 2000 following the outbreak of the Oslo War. It had often reported a daily turnover of close to a million dollars. With national elections only 12 weeks away, the news against Sharon - founder of the front-running Kadima Party - takes on particular public urgency. Outgoing MK Yossi Sarid (Meretz) said, "Ariel Sharon is the big apple. When he becomes rotten, there goes the whole crate." He called on Sharon to resign."

Calls rebounded through the entire political machinery in Israel for Sharon to resign.

However, within hours, such calls were rendered moot, as Sharon apparently lay on his deathbed. Is this timing coincidental, or purposeful?

Let us now discuss the final subject:

D. Future of Oslo, the Unilateral Disengagement, and the Prophesied Annihilation of the "House of Esau" (Palestinians)

NEWS BRIEF: "Sharon Kept in Medically Induced Coma", The Guardian (London), January 6, 2005

"Despite Sharon's age and the minor stroke he suffered two weeks ago, Israelis seemed shocked by the illness of a man viewed as unflappable during his decades in public life, first as a hero in Israel's earliest wars and later as the country's best known political hawk. Sharon led Israel's fight against the Palestinians during nearly five years of violence and his military background gave him the credibility with the Israeli public to make concessions to the Palestinians.

'He was one of a kind. I don't know any other man like him', said Joseph Lapid, head of the opposition Shinui Party.

I believe the Illuminati acted to remove Sharon from power, because he had become a distinct liability to their plan to complete the Oslo Accords by unilaterally withdrawing from the West Bank and carrying out the Palestinian annihilation (Read NEWS1422, NEWS1620, and NEWS2095).

Over the past year, I have posted article after article in Daily News Updates which reported the gradual takeover of the top leadership positions in each of the three major parties:

* Likud Party - Conservative -- New leader is Benjamin Netanyahu, established member of the inner Illuminati circle

* Kidma Party - Centrist -- Leader had been Sharon, but all leaders from the top to the bottom are committed to the Oslo Accord Plan

* Labor Party -- Liberal -- New leader is Peretz, who declared himself in total support of Oslo one day after assuming power from the aging Shimon Peres. (NEWS2090)

Therefore, since the Illuminati has their man firmly entrenched in the top leadership of every major political party, it does not matter who takes the position of Prime Minister now. All the planning of the top Israeli leadership since 1990 to withdraw from the Territories will go forward.

At this point, expect a charismatic leader to step forward -- possibly Netanyahu -- who will carry the Oslo Accord to its conclusion. Sharon was not that man.

Remember one other thing: Sharon is probably protected against the "pulsa d'nura" killing curse because the Illuminati practices the greatest, most powerful Witchcraft in the world. Their practice of Witchcraft is much more powerful than any practiced by any regular Kabbalist. These stories of the "pulsa d'nura" killing curse being placed against Yitchak Rabin and Ariel Sharon could very well be disinformation designed to hide the true reason these men were struck down, i.e., their usefulness to the Illuminati had come to an end, making them a liability rather than an asset.

One other matter needs to be reinterated. Christian evangelist Pat Robertson was at it again this week, saying stuff he should not say, giving out a message intended to mislead rather than to build-up and edify the Church body. Let us review this current news story now.

NEWS BRIEF: "White House criticizes U.S. evangelist remark about Sharon", Ha'aretz News, 1/7/2006

"WASHINGTON - The White House sharply criticized Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson on Friday for suggesting that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for 'dividing God's land' ... Robertson made his comments about Israel and Sharon on his TV program, 'The 700 Club'. He said, 'God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says 'This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No, this is mine.'"

Robertson is completely, 100% wrong, along with untold numbers of evangelical Christians, as events will soon prove. As Cutting Edge predicted in October, 2000, Israel is separating the populations, Palestinian from Jewish. This separation is occurring both by a physical fence down through the country, but also by removing Jewish settlers "from harm's way" out of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The purpose of this settler withdrawal is to fulfill Obadiah 15-18, to annihilate the Palestinians completely. If you have not read NEWS1422, NEWS1620, and NEWS2095, we encourage you to do so now. The Palestinians are the "House of Esau" and will be annihilated -- once Jewish settlers are removed.

Therefore, Israel is not "giving up God's land", but is merely performing a temporary "Strategic Withdrawal". Once the prophecy has been fulfilled, Israel will fully reoccupy the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Therefore, you can safely ignore Pat Robertson's misleading words -- a statement which sounds right on the surface, but which is wholly wrong.

The Alito Hearings, Part Two

The nature of the way the hearings will run for the next couple of days means that it's difficult to say anything contemporaneous. By that I mean, you don't want to write something during the course of the day that is essentially rendered moot in what takes place the last hour of a very, very long day.

So, the best I can do is try to write something as we approach the culmination of nine plus hours of back and forth--and then add a last-second addendum. Here I go, bearing in mind that these are broad generalizations that extend only through pro-abortion Charles Schumer (D-NY).

In his opening remarks yesterday, Judge Samuel Alito, Jr. appeared to be extremely nervous. That did not seem to be the case today, even after Sen. Ted Kennedy did his usual demagogic jig.

All the Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats are pro-abortion, as is the Republican Committee Chairman, Republican Arlen Specter. Many took a run at Judge Alito.

They honed in on Alito's comments in an application for a position in the Reagan Administration and his advice to Solicitor General Charles Fried about what the government's position ought to be vis a vis the Thornburgh abortion case which the Court heard in 1986 and on his dissent as a member of the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals in a case that the Supreme Court would later review in 1992--Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Collectively, Judge Alito said several things, but I will mention only two. First, there is a clear difference between his role as an advocate for the Reagan Administration and what his role would be, should he be confirmed to replace Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

The question was, of course, how much of a precedent Roe is--how much deference to it should future courts provide. The best discussion of that came from Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio).

Let me quote. It is VERY long but very important. According to the transcript,

"During the confirmation hearing of Chief Justice Roberts, Chairman Specter showed us a chart stating that the Supreme Court had the opportunity to overrule Roe v. Wade in 38 cases. Because of this, the chairman suggested that Roe was not only a super-precedent, but super-duper-precedent.

"The chairman has made the same argument at the hearing today. In fact, he brought the chart out again today.

"Now, Judge, just to show you that not all members of this panel are like-minded, I want to tell you that I disagree. To me, Roe is not super-precedent. I believe Roe is precedent, but I don't believe it's super-duper-precedent, nor super-precedent.

"First, although the court has applied Roe in 38 cases, it has not directly taken up the issue of whether to overrule Roe in every one of those cases.

"In fact, out of those 38 cases, I've only found four in which the court directly addressed the status of Roe as binding precedent.

"In Webster, the court asked whether Roe should be reaffirmed but ultimately avoided the issue.

"In three cases, City of Akron, Thornburgh and Casey, the court did reaffirm Roe.

"But the last of these, Casey, did so in a way that hardly left Roe on firm footing. In fact, Casey altered Roe by eliminating the strict scrutiny standard of review and replacing it with a lesser, undue burden tests. The result has been [that] many restrictions on abortion have been upheld.

"Second, just because Roe has been applied and reaffirmed does not make it a special form of precedent. Many other cases have been applied for decades before eventually being overruled.

"For example, Plessy v. Ferguson, the case establishing the principle of separate but equal was upheld for 60 years before it was overruled, and certainly discredited today; Lochner v. New York, a case that greatly limited the power of the states to protect children and workers, was consistently applied for more than 30 years before it was overruled. And Swift v. Tyson, the case establishing the doctrine of federal common law, was a bedrock principle of American law repeatedly applied and upheld for nearly 100 years before it, too, was struck down.

"Thus the mere fact that Roe has been upheld for more than 30 years does not mean that it's entitled to special deference.

"Third, from the start, Roe has been criticized by lawyers, scholars and judges, whether Democrats or Republicans. And to date, it does remain controversial.

"Fourth, much has happened over the last 30 years to undermine the soundness of Roe.

"Senator [Sam] Brownback [R-Ks.] has mentioned how the facts of Roe have changed. We now know that the plaintiff in Roe based her case on false statements and that she wants the case overturned.

"We also know much about the life of babies in utero that we did not know 30 years ago.

"We even know something about the internal deliberations of the justices who decided Roe. In an internal Supreme Court memo, Justice Harry Blackmun, the author of Roe, acknowledged that the trimester framework established in his opinion was, and I quote, "arbitrary."

"And Justice Lewis Powell said that he could not find a right to an abortion within the Constitution and decided instead to rely on his gut.

"Finally, whatever the term super-precedent means, I do not think that it describes Roe. In an article by William Landis and Richard Posner, super-precedent was defined this way: "It is a" -- and I quote -- "precedent that is so effective in defining the requirements of the law that it prevents legal decisions arising in the first place or, if they do arise, it induces them to be settled without litigation," end of quote.

"In other words, super-precedent is precedent that is so firmly entrenched in our legal system that people simply don't question it.

"Marbury v. Madison, the case establishing the power of judicial review, is super-precedent. It's so well-settled that litigants do not challenge it in court. In fact, it is one of the fundamental assumptions upon which our constitutional system is built.

"Roe is hardly Marbury. Is Roe Supreme Court precedent? Certainly. But in my view, it is not super-precedent -- is not super- duper-precedent or even super-precedent. It is precedent. Nothing more. "

Based on his track record, it was predictable that Sen. Schumer was the most aggressive and the most hostile. He began with his usual underhanded tricks--offering unidentified [and unobjectionable sounding] quotes and then asked Alito to agree.

Once he did, Schumer would offer the sources of those quotes and then imply that the sources of those quotes were somehow underhanded and less-than-truthful--and so was Alito-- guilt by free association.

Tomorrow, we'll pick up on the last couple of speakers from today and what is said on Wednesday.

See you tomorrow.

TWO GERMANS VS ISLAMISM

Two Germans vs. Islamism

The interior ministers of two German states have recently advanced important measures for containing radical Islam. They bear close attention across the West.

In Baden-Wurtenberg, Heribert Rech of the ruling Christian Democratic Union party has overseen the administering of a 30-topic loyalty test for applicants to become naturalized citizens. Following an intensive and sophisticated study by the Baden-Wurtenberg government of Muslim life, it developed a manual for the naturalization authorities explaining that applicants for citizenship must concur with the "free, democratic, constitutional structure" of Germany.

Because survey research finds that 21% of Muslims living in Germany believe the German constitution irreconcilable with the Koran, the written yes-no questions of yesteryear are history for Muslim applicants for citizenship. As of January 1, 2006, immigration officers who suspect Islamist leanings are instructed to probe further. Personal interviews will now last an hour or two and will be given to an estimated half of naturalization applicants.

The questions amount to a summary of Western values. What do you think of democracy, political parties, and religious freedom? What would you do if you learned about a terrorist operation underway? Views of the attacks of September 11, 2001, are a "key issue," the director of the alien registration office in Stuttgart, Dieter Biller, said: Were Jews responsible for it? Were the 19 hijackers terrorists or freedom fighters? Finally, nearly two thirds of the questions concern gender issues, such as women's rights, husbands beating wives, "honor killings," female attire, arranged marriages, polygyny, and homosexuality.

Responding to critics, the Interior Ministry denies discrimination against Muslims, insisting on the need to find out whether the applicants' expressed views on the German constitution correspond to their real views. Applicants who pass the test and are granted citizenship could later lose that citizenship if they act inconsistently with their "correct" answers.

Adding extra requirements of Muslim applicants for citizenship is not unique to Germany; in Ireland, for example, male candidates are made to swear they will not marry more than one wife.

The second initiative originates in Lower Saxony, where the interior minister, Uwe Schünemann, also a CDU member, has stated he would consider making radical Islamists wear electronic foot tags. Doing so, he says, would allow the authorities "to monitor the approximately 3,000 violence-prone Islamists in Germany, the hate preachers [i.e., Islamist imams], and the fighters trained in foreign terrorist camps." Electronic tags, he suggested, are practical "for violence-prone Islamists who can't be expelled to their home countries because of the threat of torture" there.

The electronic tagging of terror suspects is also not unprecedented. In Britain, the method has been used since March 2005 and, other than a glitch-plagued start, it has been applied to ten suspects with reasonable success. In Australia, counterterrorism measures implemented last month permit tagging for up to a year.

But Mr. Schünemann's proposal goes well beyond these applications, tagging not just potential terrorists, but also "hate preachers" who break the law not by personally engaging in violence but by articulating beliefs that encourage others to terrorism. Tagging them breaks new conceptual ground by aggressively going to the ideological source of violence.

It has potentially large implications. If hate preachers are tagged, why not the many other non-violent Islamists who also help create an environment promoting terrorism? Their ranks would include activists, artists, computer gamers, couriers, funders, intellectuals, journalists, lawyers, lobbyists, organizers, researchers, shopkeepers, and teachers. In short, Mr. Schünemann's initiative could lead ultimately to the electronic tagging of all Islamists.

But electronic tags reveal only a person's geographic location, not his words or actions, which matter more when dealing with imams and other non-violent cadres. With due allowances for personal privacy, their speech could be recorded, their actions videoed, their mail and electronic communications monitored. Such controls could be done discreetly or overtly. If overt, the tagging would serve as a modern scarlet letter, shaming the wearer and alerting potential dupes.

The Schünemann proposal points to the urgent need to develop a working definition of Islamism and Islamists, plus the imperative for the authorities to explain how even non-violent Islamists are the enemy.

Messrs. Rech and Schünemann have presented two bold tactics for the defense of the West, premised in each case on an understanding that culture and ideas are the real battleground. I salute their creativity and courage. Who will next adapt and adopt these initiatives?

THERE'S AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

There’s an Elephant in the Room
By Arlene Peck

Do you think it is possible to really see clearly anymore? Do we still have the capacity to detect the face of evil?

I ask this because, every time I open up a newspaper and see rampaging masses of Muslims in black ski-masks, fists upraised, armed to the teeth, shouting, "Jihad!  Jihad!”,  I am not only repelled by what I see but convinced I have seen the very Devil unmasked.  However, I don’t think that most people have that reaction when they click on the news.  Possibly it's because I was reared in the south and remember the Klu Klux Klan (KKK) marching in those stupid white sheets and dunce hats that those old feelings of revulsion lie just below the surface and are easily re-awakened?  I don’t know.

Maybe we have it so good over here that we have become like the proverbial frog in the pot of water. As the heat was applied, he felt warmer and warmer until suddenly the pot was boiling over, with catastrophic consequences for the frog!  Is that us now? The nightly terrorist attacks in Iraq no longer seem capable of scaring us.  Who really notices when our President tells us that we are winning the war on terrorism? Who feels committed to the task, or that this is their war? Does anyone really believe that we’re all going into the sunset holding hands with the Muslim community in the Middle East, or anywhere else for that matter, if they get the gift of democracy?  Democracy is also their enemy. Ask the Iranians. In fact, look how Iraq is handling it. As I write this they are ‘protesting’ in the only way they know how because the price of gas has gone from 5cents a gallon to sixty-five cents, with violence and bloodshed.

We are dealing with a mentality that is innately incapable of grasping the basic, simplified Democratic concepts; that whoever gets the most votes ….rules. And there is no need for us to wonder why this is so. It is fundamental to their religion, inherent in every “truth” they practice. Theirs is a religion based on submission, not representation and difference, where shame and “honour” supplant decency and compassion.

Somehow, the democratizing of Iraq has gotten mixed up with the success of the war on terror. To my way of thinking, this has only muddied the waters and, as usual, has inevitable and disastrous consequences for Jews and Israel. We are in a World War and just like in pre-War Germany nobody seems to want to acknowledge it. Apparently there is no elephant in the room! Just to illustrate the point, recently Jerusalem Bureau Chief Aaron Klein was denied entry into Syria simply because he was a Jew.  However his non-Jewish colleagues, travelling with him, were welcomed.  As far as I know, not one news agency considered this newsworthy enough to report.  I wonder? Would they have noticed had he been required to wear a yellow Star of David on his sleeve? There was no worldwide outrage.  It was received with the same ho-hummery accorded Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, when he went on camera to ridicule the Holocaust and repeat how Israel should be blown off the map. Hello people! Nuclear threats from a certifiable madman, not retracted or repudiated…. but repeated, just so no-one would be left in doubt as to the intention. Nuclear destruction of a sovereign nation!

It has gotten to the point where not even leftist Jews think it is deplorable that Muslims continue to repeat their mantra - no Jews should be permitted to live in the Middle East.  How obvious does it have to be before there is outrage, International OR Israeli, over Palestine’s refusal to back away from their stated goal of Israeli annihilation and replacement by “Palestinian” hordes?

Repeat THIS mantra.  In the history of the world, there has never been a Palestinian people (other than the Jews), a Palestinian king, a Palestinian state, a distinct Palestinian language or culture.  It never existed!  And, it should not now.

But, why should I be surprised? For years, I’ve been writing on the subject of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the deliberate attempts of its 182 members to block the admission of  Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA).   Why is this an issue at all? Isn't the motivation of all these Associations to give aid, to whoever, wherever, not bicker like school-children over a flag?

But no, Arab nations, insulted by the Jewish Star, have used their 22 votes, in concert with many non-Muslims lands, to block Israel's entry.

They’re insulted? Insulted? When is the world going to become insulted by the manner in which one culture has changed the world in ways too horrible to comprehend? Maybe that’s why we stay so hung up on ‘political correctness’ and denial, refusing the politically incorrect notion that, in fact, that the Jews are the ‘good guys’ in this war of culture. Our culture deniers seem more eager to have their ‘acceptable rules of behaviour’ defined by a barbaric and evil culture where   “Death to All!” rules.  Let the double standard prevail…rather than face the Devil and what they represent! There is another mantra we should all remember: “All Muslims are not terrorists, but, ALL TERRORISTS HAVE BEEN MUSLIMS.”

So, instead of a Jewish Star, Israel has been forced to accept a Red Crystal, a supposedly, "simple diamond shape", thanks to another inane suggestion by South Africa. Apparently, the “diamond” originally proposed had connotations of slavery so, in the face of this compelling and vital issue, the MDA and Israel have caved in.  Instead, eager to gain the world's acceptance, they will use an empty crystal with their real symbol, the red Star of David to be allowed only in Israel, unless more is heard from this conference of anti-Semites.  By the way, virtually every major Jewish organization in the US, with rare exception, applauded this appalling flim-flam rather than resist the rejection of the historical symbol of Judaism.  So, the Christians get to keep their cross, the Muslims keep the Red Crescent and the Jews get the shaft.

Israel, in her stupidity, or maybe because she is so used to grovelling for crumbs at the United Nations, accepted this and Israel’s Foreign Minister, Sylvan Shalom, actually said, “The vote reflects Israel’s improved international standing.  This is yet another achievement for Israel’s diplomacy and paves the way for Israel to join international rescue missions."  So, once again, Israel openly admits that she is not worthy of the same status as the cross and crescent and we are privy to seeing the double standard applied yet again.

Examples such as these are small potatoes, in an overall world context. My gripe is that the cumulative effect of 50 plus years of this irrational behaviour towards Israel has seeped into not only World consciousness but also Israel’s own perceptions of herself. It’s ok to behave immaturely and appallingly, its only Israel!

I am disgusted at the lack of outcry, from any quarter, over the savagery we have allowed ourselves to become accustomed to. The world has to realize that Israel is not a banana republic and Israel has to learn a little more of “Just say no!” Personally speaking, I want to regain some of that pride I used to feel. But, why stop with the press, governments and the Red Cross, who could care less and, for the most part, are hostile to Jews and every Israeli position presented, seemingly by default.

Why should I be any less surprised by the actions of Israel-hating Jewish leftists - who are actively doing everything they can to destroy their very heritage, pointedly ignoring Jewish welfare and interests, yet proudly and publicly marching for the dolphins - when I am surrounded by the Spielberg's of this world, denying our history, circulating false claims or outright lies in movies concerning things Jews have not done or endorse.  Anything goes, in the name of political correctness.

I wrote a column a few years ago about the Jewish Federations, where bloated salaries prevail and dollars are wasted on causes which never promote Israel and are rarely pro-Jewish, where the very idea of affordable Jewish education is discouraged.

I am disturbed to read that the FBI refuses to hire Arabic-speaking Jews, but shouldn't be.  Is this another insult to CAIR or maybe the ACLU? Maybe it's considered racial profiling?

One of the many things that was so special about our Jewish heritage was the way we always took care of each other. In fact, that almost defined us! Not so today, where Jews are discriminated against, by Jews, especially the elderly in the inner cities who face poverty and illness. Where is their support? Hell, where is the support for the settlers from Gaza, who are now homeless, having been evicted by their own government?

Why should I be surprised? I called into the Israeli Consulate a couple of weeks ago and offered to do a program for them on my weekly television show. I told them it would run like a commercial for them and be great Public Relations.  I'm still waiting for them to respond. Are they scared of me? Frightened I might talk about Israel positively, as though she has rights?

I know it's an effort to attend meetings, write letters to government officials and attend marches. We've grown weary complaining about the biased newspapers such as the Los Angeles Times.  However, one person CAN make a difference. I write these columns and people do respond. I'm invited to speak at Universities;  Radio and Television shows contact me, asking me to speak . I am encouraged, often, when I receive letters from all over the world from people who tell me how they are now doing their part to wake up the catatonic to the dangers facing us on a world-wide basis, but we all need to be doing this, and often! I know I am not the only Jew who has intimate knowledge of what happened to our people once before, not that long ago .The threat of Islamic Fundamentalism is marching over the hill....every hill. If we are going to survive, we have to turn back the tide!   NOW

  DON?T TELL A SOUL!
by Emanuel A. Winston, a Middle East analyst & commentator

When Israel?s Prime Minister Ariel (Arik) Sharon was kicking Jewish families out of their homes in Gush Katif/Gaza and Northern Samaria, the area was flooded with the world Media, virtually drooling at the aspect of a clash between the hard-working settlers and Sharon?s Army. Newsmen, TV camera crews and anchorpersons, journalists and photographers were all relying on the axiom: "If it bleeds, it leads." Meaning - if Sharon?s specially costumed and psychologically brainwashed Army and Police thugs could be urged on to crack heads, it would create a sensational story and, therefore, make their day.

Sharon?s name popped up hourly in local and foreign Media. Sharon, previously the hated barbarian of the Media was suddenly their darling for creating good news stories. Sharon was attacking those "hated" Jews who irritated the Muslim Arab Palestinians of Gaza. How the Media savaged those Jewish farmers who greened the formerly sandy, barren land. But, Sharon was now doing what the Left wanted, what the Osloids wanted, what the Arabists State Department and the Bush Administration wanted and always what the Saudis wanted.
How sure they all were that the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen) and the Arab Muslim Palestinians would cease their terror - much as they believed in Oslo.

So, the 10,000 peaceful Jewish men, women and children of Gush Katif/Gaza were driven out of their homes, schools, farms, factories, synagogues and even their cemeteries for the Sharon-Bush "Peace Dividend". They waited and waited and waited but - no peace! - only increased Terror. The slippery slugs like James Wolfensohn pledged money to the Gush Katif farmers for their innovative, remarkable greenhouses and bug-free produce. The farmers never got the money promised them and the Palestinians descended on those high tech greenhouses like vicious locusts, plundering, looting, destroying.
Now they cannot produce what the Jews had produced and Jewish farmers are being asked (secretly) for technical advice.

Suddenly, where Sharon?s name was mentioned in every column, every TV news report, his name began to disappear when Muslim Arab Palestinians shoot Rockets into Israel. To mention his name now was to link him to the failure of his retreat from Gush Katif/Gaza. The Leftist Media still needed Sharon to evacuate the center of the country - the heartland of Judea and Samaria. The failure of his uprooting Jews from Gush Katif must never be mentioned in the same breath as the results of his botched up operation in Gaza.

Sharon was advised time and again by the Chief of Staff, Head of Shabak, Head of the Air Force, Head of Army Intelligence, Head of Southern Command, etc. that if he created a vacuum in Gaza, it would fill up with Terrorists from all over the world, and become an operational firebase for Global Terror operations. All the projections and prognostications of the Right, the Top Generals, the leaders of Intelligence have all come true but, not for the Media. Sharon is their ?deity?, as long as he and his "Kadima" Party collaborators pledge to savage the Jewish settlers of Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley, and inevitably, that part of Jerusalem controlled and desecrated by Jordan for 19 years from 1948 to 1967.
When Kassem Rockets are launched from Gaza at Israeli cities, the strikes are not reported as the fault of Arik Sharon, the single person most responsible for the ongoing fiasco. He is to be protected from his own extravagant stupidity and hubris. Or, was it an aged brain with hardened arteries and his balloon like figure - which will be the escape clause for Sharon and the Media.

Longer range Kassem Rockets have struck close to Israel?s vital power plant and near the fuel depots in Ashkelon but, still these dangerous incidents are never connected to Sharon?s responsibility for the blunder that allows the Terrorists an easy base of operations.
I hope one day to see Sharon in chains, along with the Leftist Hebrew Media, facing their Nuremberg Tribunal.

In the meantime, Gaza has become a battlefield of Muslim Arab Terrorists, each attacking the other over the spoils when they are not attacking Israeli cities. Abu Mazen, the ?pet? on display for the American President George W. Bush is failing dramatically and become an embarrassment for Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the "Shadow" Government driven by the oil magnates/maggots.

Sharon, their ?inside? collaborator, is doing his best to keep Abu Mazen afloat but has to make an election showing that he is also really protecting the Jewish nation as the Rockets fall in increasing numbers and potency. So, Sharon shoots empty buildings and empty fields and tells everyone he is making a ?Security Zone? in Northern Gaza - exactly where the now demolished 3 Israeli settlements were positioned as a real buffer security zone.

Sharon is trying to push the Kassem firing teams back a bit with his buffer zone (or more truthfully called "Sharon?s bluffer zone"). When the settlers and Army were there, the Terrorists could not get close to Israel?s cities. But - now they can and it is all Sharon?s doing.
Clearly, if Sharon is not able to hide behind the excuse and faulty judgement of an elderly sick man, then he must be brought to trial as a co-conspirator to commit treason against the Jewish Nation. But, keep an eye on the Media as they absolve Sharon and delete his name from each disaster emanating from the epicenter of Gaza.

There are those in the Hebrew/Jewish Media who follow the thinking of the anti-Semitic Julius Streicher, editor of the Nazi "Der Steurmer" who ended his days on the gallows after the Judgement at Nuremberg. Sometimes even Justice has its day.
Let us not forget the publishers, editors, journalists, news anchors who (like Streicher) hated the observant Jewish people - especially the settlers - and worked hard for their elimination. There will come a day when they will be hunted down and brought to justice.

So Don?t Tell a Soul that everything that is happening in Gaza and into Israel is Sharon?s doing. If Israel?s Media refuses to mention Sharon in the collapse of Gaza and his grand plan, I guess we shouldn?t tell anyone either.

Anything New Under the Sun?

In the very first sentences of her introduction to "Team of Rivals," her very fine new Lincoln biography, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin writes the following:

"In 1876, the celebrated orator Frederick Douglass dedicated a monument in Washington, D.C., erected by black Americans to honor Abraham Lincoln. The former slave told his audience that 'there is little necessity on this occasion to speak to length and critically of this great and good man, and of his high mission in the world. That ground has been fully occupied…. The whole field of fact and fancy has been gleaned and garnered. Any man can say things that are true of Abraham Lincoln, but no man can say anything that is new of Abraham Lincoln.'"

Needless to say, having just written a 757-page tome, Goodwin politely begs to differ. Her approach is ingenious. She has "coupled" her account of Lincoln's life, she writes, "with the stories of the remarkable men who were his rivals for the 1860 Republican presidential nomination."

In case the reader may not initially be persuaded, Goodwin quickly adds, "Just as a hologram is created through the interference of light from separate sources, so the lives and impressions of those who companioned Lincoln give us a clearer and more dimensional picture of the president himself."

I mention this by way of posing this question. After nearly 33 years of trench warfare, has the "ground been fully occupied," or can something new be "gleaned and garnered" about Roe v. Wade?

Well, since I've edited a monthly publication for 24 years that plows new ground each and very issue, my answer is yes. My response is more emphatic than ever in light of the special January 2006 NRL News Commemorative Edition--"Roe v. Wade: A Decision Under Siege." (To order, call us immediately at 202-626-8800, ext. 128.)

As I wrote that sentence it occurred to me that our task as much as anything is to sift the wheat from the chaff. Sounds almost easy, doesn't it?

But the problem is that the chaff--in this instance the airy (and erroneous) insistence that the unborn is a moral cipher whose demise has always been a bloody part of the American landscape--carries more weight than the wheat. Why is that so?

Largely because the power institutions in our culture, led by the "mainstream media," are mesmerized by a narrative that insists that abortion on demand is just the latest example in a long line of changes that have "enlarged" freedom. Luckily, more and more people are seeing this for the one-sided (and upside down) treatment of the controversy that it is.

Late last night, my youngest daughter finished the rough draft of the paper every junior at high schools in our city must write to attain "proficiency" in eleventh grade English. Her topic is starving and dehydrating vulnerable people to death, done either against their wishes or in the absence of direct evidence they would want to die such a horrid death. It's largely about Terri Schindler Schiavo.

By this stage in my life as a parent, I've gotten much better at what I should have been doing all along with my older kids--prodding and clarifying and just waiting for them to reach his or her conclusion--instead of practically dictating an answer. Watching her think her way through the debate; observing her powers of observation grow; and seeing her indignation mount as the injustice of it all sweeps over her gives me great hope for the future.

Unlike many adults, adolescents are not tone-deaf to calls for mercy and justice, nor are they color-blind to the subtleties of the dehumanizing portrait pro-abortionists paint of the unborn. The certainties that the Planned Parenthoods of this world have counted on are crumbling.

By turning the tables on the defenseless--by focusing on what the unborn must demonstrate before we grant them inclusion in the family of man--we conveniently skirt the real question. And that is what we, as responsible moral agents, owe them. These are the big questions--the timeless questions--that we have managed to avoid candidly discussing.

Will we get to them quickly? No. For many people, the staging grounds may be important yet peripheral issues.

For example, how solid is the legal foundation? (the grounds are shifting). Or, shouldn't the decision-making on abortion be returned to the 50 states, rather than stifling a democratic discussion, as the Supreme Court has done for nearly 33 years? Or, has abortion truly been good for women, or has it been more like an unmitigated disaster?

I would just encourage you to call us [202-626-8800, ext. 128] or go directly to the website to order your January 2006 Commemorative NRL News edition. [www.nrlc.org/news/Jan22Ad2006.pdf]

Abortion Protesters File Suit Over City Ordinance

Abortion protesters have filed a suit seeking to head off a proposed Granite City ordinance that would sharply restrict the size of the signs they could carry. The proposal would ban signs bigger than a piece of letter-sized paper. The proposal is a response to an incident during a holiday parade Nov. 19 in Granite City in which protesters displayed graphic signs of aborted fetuses. Full story...

Subject: Horses betrayed by USDA: Agency plans to continue slaughter

Dear Jennifer,

I am writing because U.S. Department of Agriculture might put all of your hard work to save horses from slaughter at risk, and we desperately need your help.

We had a remarkable year for horses during 2005. With help from dedicated advocates like you, we:

  • Convinced the U.S. House of Representatives to pass an amendment by a landslide vote of 269-158 to prevent the use of tax dollars to promote horse slaughter.
  • Then we secured a big 69-28 vote in the Senate in favor of an identical amendment.
  • Finally, when it appeared that the conference committee might remove the horse slaughter language entirely, we worked together again to ensure that the ban stayed in the final bill (with an added 120-day delay for implementation).

We all celebrated these tremendous victories as the year closed, anticipating that on March 10, 2006, horse slaughter in America would stop for the remainder of the year, paving the way for more progress and a permanent ban.

But now, the horse slaughter ban is in danger again and we need your help to save it!

Never did we imagine that the USDA, an administrative agency charged with carrying out Congress' will, might betray Congress and the Americans they represent. But it appears that the agency might try to side-step this new law by finding a way to continue inspections of horses for slaughter, and thereby continue its involvement with the cruel and un-American horse slaughter industry. The USDA is seriously considering a petition submitted by the foreign-owned slaughter plants that would create a whole new manner of paying for horse slaughter, an effort that directly undermines Congress' mandate.

Tell the USDA to respect the will of Congress and enforce the slaughter ban.

Americans don't eat horsemeat -- there simply is no domestic demand for it. But last year, more than 90,000 American horses were either killed in one of three foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States or shipped to Canada or Mexico for slaughter. Our thoroughbreds, show horses, mustangs, carriage horses, and family ponies are shipped in inhumane conditions and butchered.

This new development means that the thousands of horses who were to be spared are again at grave risk. We cannot let this happen. Take action today to help stop USDA from engaging in this inhumane slaughter for export.

1. Take action. Contact USDA Secretary Johanns and urge him to shut down this illegal and undemocratic usurpation of Congress' authority. Click here to contact USDA now.

2. Spread the word. The USDA needs to hear from as many Americans as possible. Ask your friends and family to contact them as well. Click here to tell five friends to take action now.

Knowing that thousands of our loyal and trusted companions have already been slaughtered is simply devastating. Please, stand with us and do everything you can to spare the lives of our horses. Together, we will stop this horrible practice.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle

[After Sharon:] Israeli Politics Will Revert to Its Past

by Daniel Pipes
National Post
January 5, 2006
http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3253" title="http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3253" target="_blank"http://www.danielpipes.org/ar...

Israel's prime minister, Ariel Sharon, has suffered a massive brain hemorrhage; at the very least, his long political career appears to be over. What does that mean for Israeli politics and for Arab-Israeli relations?

Basically, it signals a return to business as usual.

Since the State of Israel came into existence in 1948, two points of view on relations with the Arabs have dominated its political life, represented by (as they are presently called) Labour on the left and Likud on the right.

Labour argued for greater flexibility and accommodation with the Arabs, Likud called for a tougher stance. Every one of Israel's 11 prime ministers came from the two of them, not a single one came from the plethora of others. The two parties together suffered a long-term decline in popularity but they jointly remained the pivots and kingmakers of Israel electoral life.

Or so they did until six weeks ago. On Nov. 21, Sharon left Likud and formed his own party, called Kadima. He took this radical step in part because his views vis-à-vis the Palestinians had evolved so far from Likud's nationalist policies, as shown by his withdrawal of Israeli forces and civilians from Gaza during mid-2005, that he no longer fit there. Also, he had attained such personal popularity that he attained the stature to found a party in his own image.

His move was exquisitely timed and enormously successful. Instantly, the polls showed Kadima effectively replacing Labour and Likud. The latest survey, conducted by "Dialogue" on Monday and published yesterday, showed Kadima winning 42 seats of the 120 seats in the Knesset, Israel's parliament. Labour followed with 19 seats and Likud trailing behind with a dismal 14.

Kadima's stunning success turned Israeli politics upside-down. The historic warhorses had been so sidelined, one could speculate about Sharon forming a government without even bothering to ally with one or other of them.

Even more astonishing was Sharon's personal authority in Kadima; never had Israel witnessed the emergence of such a strongman. (And rarely do other mature democracies; Pim Fortuyn in the Netherlands comes to mind as another exception.) Sharon quickly lured to Kadima prominent Labour, Likud and other politicians who shared little in common other than a willingness to follow his lead.

It was a daredevil, high-flying, net-less, bravura, acrobatic feat, one that would last only so long as Sharon retained his magic touch. Or his health.

I was skeptical of Kadima from the very start, dismissing it just one week after it came into existence as an escapist venture that "will (1) fall about as abruptly as it has arisen and (2) leave behind a meager legacy." If Sharon's career is now over, so is Kadima's. He created it, he ran it, he decided its policies, and none else can now control its fissiparous elements. Without Sharon, Kadima's constituent elements will drift back to their old homes in Labour, Likud, and elsewhere. With a thud, Israeli politics return to normal.

Likud, expected to slip into a dismal third place in the March voting, stands the most to gain from Sharon's exit. Kadima's members came disproportionately from its ranks and now Likud conceivably could, under the forceful leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, do well enough to remain in power. Likud's prospects look all the brighter given that Labour has just elected a radical and untried new leader, Amir Peretz.

More broadly, the sudden leftward turn of Israeli politics in the wake of Sharon's personal turn to the left will stop and perhaps even be reversed.

Turning to Israeli relations with the Palestinians, Sharon made monumental mistakes in recent months. In particular, the withdrawal of all Israelis from Gaza confirmed for Palestinians that violence works, prompting a barrage of rockets on Israeli territory and an inflammation of the political temperature.

As Israel settles back to a more normal state, with no politician enjoying Sharon's outsized popularity, governmental actions will again come under closer scrutiny. The result is likely to be a less escapist and more realist set of policies toward the Palestinians and perhaps even some forward movement toward a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian war.

Vatican Says Jews cannot be trusted with ownership of their ancient capital

By Stan Goodenough

January 4th, 2006

The Roman Catholic Church says the Jewish state cannot be trusted to exercise control over the city of Jerusalem – ancient and eternal capital of the people of Israel.

In a statement whose arrogance and contempt he seemingly could not see, the Vatican’s legal advisor in Israel, David Jaeger, told an international conference in Haifa Tuesday that Jerusalem was too important a city to leave in the hands of either “Palestinians” or Jews.

Jaeger’s view was that the status of Jerusalem required the approval of the international community as a whole.

Ironically the Vatican, which claims to be spiritual home to one billion of the world’s Christians, rejects the biblical stipulation granting everlasting possession of ancient Canaan, inclusive of Jerusalem, to the Jewish people.

Since 1947 it has sought to have Jerusalem internationalized, confident that with Rome’s massive global constituency the pope will be able to exercise substantial control over the city.

Jaeger is historically on solid ground when he says the Palestinian Arabs should have no say over Jerusalem. The city has never been an Arab capital and the “Palestinians” have no historic or national rights to it (or to any other part of Israel’s biblical homeland).

The Jews, by contrast, have venerated the city as their holiest site for over 3000 years. Israel is the only nation that has ever had Jerusalem as its capital. During centuries of exile, Jews everywhere prayed daily to return to Jerusalem in order to be able to once again worship their God in this place.

Jerusalem is described in the New Testament as the “City of the great King,” referring to Jesus of Nazareth who also bears the title King of the Jews. The book of Revelation, foretelling Jesus’ return to Jerusalem, calls Him the Lion of the Tribe of Judah – i.e. He remains Jewish.

In recent history, it has only been while under Jewish administration that Jerusalem has flourished and that protected access to all of its holy places (including Christian and Muslim sites) has been guaranteed.

Between 1949 and 1967, when the Arab kingdom of Jordan occupied the eastern part of the city, the rights of Jews and Christians to visit their holy places was restricted, sometimes denied. The Jewish Quarter of the Old City was left to rot, its synagogues sacked and burned.

Despite this, the Vatican believes it should have a say that could deny the right of the Jewish people to keep their beloved capital in their hands.

Iran Means What It Says

by Michael Rubin
Týždeň
January 2, 2006
http://www.meforum.org/article/885" title="http://www.meforum.org/article/885" target="_blank"http://www.meforum.org/articl...

This is an English version of an essay first published in Slovak.

On December 14, 2005, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad delivered a televised speech in which he called the Nazi murder of six million Jews a fabrication. "They have created a myth in the name of the Holocaust and consider it above God, religion, and the prophets. If someone were to deny the existence of God... they would not bother him. However, if someone were to deny the myth of the Jews' massacre, all the Zionist mouthpieces and the governments subservient to the Zionists tear their larynxes and scream against the person as much as they can." In October 2005, he presided at a "World Without Zionism" conference. Banners called for Israel to be "wiped off the map." The use of English to display the slogans belied the explanation that such rhetoric was meant for internal consumption only.

Ahmadinejad's comments surprised Europe "It's really shocking that a head of state who has a seat in the United Nations can say such a thing," said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barrosso. The German foreign ministry summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires to protest the "shocking" remarks.

Europe should not be shocked, however. Ahmadinejad's sentiments were nothing new. Exactly four years before Ahmadinejad's Holocaust-denial, Expediency Council Chairman ‘Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani took the podium at Tehran University to deliver the Friday sermon, the official weekly policy statement of the Iranian government. In what should have been a wake-up call for any who believes that the Islamic Republic and the norms of Western society are compatible, Rafsanjani declared, "If one day, the Islamic world is also equipped with weapons like those that Israel possesses now, then the imperialists' strategy will reach a standstill because the use of even one nuclear bomb inside Israel will destroy everything… It is not irrational to contemplate such an eventuality." U.S. and European analysts rationalized Rafsanjani's remarks, suggesting that he referred to self-defense only. Tellingly, though, many Iranian parliamentarians understood the Expediency Council Chairman to mean what he said: Threatening offensive use of a nuclear weapon.

Iranian figures ranging from Islamic Revolution leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to current Supreme Leader ‘Ali Khamene‘i and even so-called moderates like former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami have all called for Israel's destruction. Until Ahmadinejad, Iranian politicians have played their European counterparts like fiddles. Take Khatami: Addressing the Italian Parliament in March 1999, he declared, "Tolerance and exchange of views are the fruits of cultural richness, creativity, high-mindedness and harmony. One must recognize this opportunity." Khatami's conciliatory tone, though, was reserved only for gullible foreign diplomats, parliamentarians, and academics. He spoke with a different voice when addressing his domestic audience. In a televised address on October 24, 2000, for example, he declared, "In the Qur'an, God commanded to kill the wicked and those who do not see the rights of the oppressed… If we abide by human laws, we should mobilize the whole Islamic World for a sharp confrontation with the Zionist regime… If we abide by the Qur'an, all of use should mobilize to kill." Eradication of Israel remains Islamic Republic dogma. The problem is not one of politics, but rather one of ideology. This is where Brussels' strategy falls short.

Take Europe's critical engagement: Between 2000 and 2005, Iranian-European Union trade nearly tripled. During the same period, not only did Tehran's application of capital punishment double, but the Iranian government spent several billion dollars on its nuclear program. Iranian officials repeatedly exploit European openness to further revolutionary aims. On June 17, 2002, for example, European foreign ministers agreed to fast track a new trade pact with Iran. European Union officials like External Affairs Commissioner Chris Patten lobbied hard for the deal, arguing, "There is more to be said for trying to engage and to draw these societies into the international community than to cut them off." Less than a week later, Denmark's Police Surveillance Agency intercepted Iranian agents seeking to assassinate several prominent Iranian dissidents and journalists.

Likewise, former European Commission President Romano Prodi spent his tenure seeking to bolster economic ties with Iran. His July 1998 visit to Tehran broke a long-standing taboo; Iran rewarded the Italian national oil company with a $3.8 billion gas exploitation deal. The erosion of European pressure on Iran coincided not with the empowerment, but rather the demise, of the reform movement. The following July, Iranian security forces and vigilantes sacked a Tehran University student dormitory. The government began shuttering newspapers and arresting journalists. It reversed civil liberties. European governments chastised the Iranian government gently; to take significant action would endanger commercial contracts. The Islamic Republic's hierarchy, in turn, dismissed European entreaties and continued on its anti-democratic course.

EU-3 negotiations with Tehran have followed a similar pattern. European diplomats project desperation. They assume the sincerity of its partners and constantly strive to find the magic formula which will enable the Ayatollah's to abandon their nuclear future. When British Foreign Minister Jack Straw assures the British public and the Iranian government that under no circumstances will force be used in the current dispute, he emboldens his Iranian adversaries to filibuster.

European diplomacy will fail for two reasons: First, the Islamic Republic's nuclear drive is motivated by domestic politics, not security concerns which diplomacy can address. Both anecdotes and covert opinion polling regularly find 80 percent of Iranians to have lost faith in the Islamic Republic. Iranians do not believe reform possible, but rather hope for systematic change. The vast majority are analogous to those in the Soviet Union who did not merely want glasnost but rather sought an end to Communist domination. Ten percent of Iranians would follow the Khatami's reformism. These are the Iranian equivalent of Mikhail Gorbachev's proponents. The remainder believes in Ahmadinejad's hardline vision. They are the true believers, akin to the die-hard Stalinists who opposed reform to the end.

These true-believers and ayatollahs are faced with a booming population increasingly hostile to their rule. They hold the Islamic Republic's theocratic tenets above the popular will. Herein lays the nuclear card: If the Islamic Republic achieves nuclear capability, it can do whatever it wants domestically without fear of outside interference. It can, for example, deploy its Revolutionary Guard tanks against student protestors. It can liquidate political prisoners, as it did in 1989. European diplomats often speak of pursuing a China model, in which they would encourage Tehran's economic liberalization first. But Iran is not China. Demography matters. If the European Union tries to treat Iran as it has China, Europe should prepare for ten Tiananmen Squares.

The second reason European diplomacy is doomed to failure is the Revolutionary Guard. Inward looking and ideological, the Revolutionary Guard are the Islamic Republic's elites. Established by Ayatollah Khomeini because of his distrust of the ordinary Iranian military, Revolutionary Guard units are the trusted guardians of Iran's most sophisticated weapons systems and sensitive programs. European diplomats may drink grape juice together with their Iranian counterparts in Vienna, but Iranian diplomats simply have no knowledge of or influence over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. The Iranian Foreign Ministry is not in the chain of command. Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah ‘Ali Khamene‘i, the only personality in Iran with the power to make binding decisions, has shown no willingness to engage, let alone sit down with, European leaders.

In recent years, the Revolutionary Guard—the prime backers of Ahmadinejad—have expanded their influence in Iran. The Supreme Leader has appointed Revolutionary Guard heads to the leadership of the Revolutionary Foundations, the uniquely Iranian institutions which monopolize import-export, the oil industry, and any significant hard currency earner. The Guard has managed to scuttle signed contracts allowing Turkish and European firms to operate cell phone networks and the new Tehran airport. It is this ideological and xenophobic core which controls both Iran's nuclear industry and its missile programs. Ahmadinejad's Holocaust denial and threats to "wipe Israel off the map" are the ingrained ideology of this group. Recent apocalyptic references by Ahmadinejad—who may just believe that he can hasten the return of the Hidden Imam, a Messianic Shi‘ite figure through the cleansing of violence and war—should frighten all Europeans. Diplomacy assumes sincerity of all partners, but Ahmadinejad shows every indication of wanting war, not peace.

Political problems can be resolved through diplomacy, but the ideological underpinnings of a hostile regime cannot. Pol Pot could not be dissuaded from genocidal xenophobia. Gamal Abdul Nasser would never abandon Arab nationalism. Saddam defiantly upholds the principles of his rule, even after his ouster from power. The Iranian leadership is no different. No amount of diplomacy will convince Iran's clerical leadership to abandon tenets and policies they see rooted in their own interpretation of theology. The Iranian leadership is as dangerous as its expanding arsenal. But, at least with Ahmadinejad's candid commentary, European officials can see the Islamic Republic for what it is rather than what they wish it to be.

    & nbsp;   &n bsp;
    & nbsp;   &n bsp;

Spielberg's not so subtle commentary about our post 9-11 world is the ultimate obscenity
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com" title="http://www.JewishWorldReview.com" target="_blank"http://www.JewishWorldReview.... | Steven Spielberg's latest film, "Munich" which opens this week, is, the opening credits tell us, "inspired by real events."
The events center on the 1972 Munich massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes, and the subsequent campaign by the Jewish state to hunt down those involved in the murder of its citizens.
Carried out in the presence of the international media and televised live, the "Black September" assault on the Olympic Village helped put the Palestinian Arab war on Israel on the international agenda. And the ability of the Palestinian Liberation Organization to literally get away with murder helped set the stage for much of the carnage that followed.
The film prompts us to ask what Israel should have done in response?
In the film, an actress playing the prime minister of Israel Golda Meir sees the answer clearly: Strike back! If the terrorists respect no limits in their war against the Jewish people, then the killers and those who direct them should not feel safe anywhere either. She orders her intelligence service ? the Mossad ? to track them down in their European havens and kill them.

  HUMANIZE THE TERRORISTS?

If such an order seems vaguely familiar to American audiences, it should. The comparison between Meir's order and the reaction of President Bush when he told rescue workers at ground zero that those who brought down the towers would soon be hearing from Americans is more than obvious.

That sort of blunt threat wasn't well-received in those quarters where our conflict with fundamentalist Islam is seen as a function of America's alleged sins against the world. Rather than seeking out Al Qaeda, some sages told us to look in the mirror if we wanted to see the real bad guys. And that is precisely the message that Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner (who shares a writing credit with Eric Roth) seem to be making about Israel in "Munich."
It should be noted that the film has already come in for justified criticism for being primarily based on a book whose primary source was a fraud. Vengeance by George Jonas purported to tell the tale of a disillusioned Mossad agent, but it turned out the man was just a cab driver with an Israeli accent, and not an ex-spy. But even if we discount this, the film still fails its subject matter. That's because the goal here is not merely to wrongly argue that the battle against Palestinian terror is as criminal as anything the terrorists have done; its purpose is also to humanize the terrorists.
In a Time magazine story on his movie, Spielberg said the insertion of a fictional conversation between the leader of the Israeli team and a PLO operative was essential to his vision of the film. In it, the Arab speaks of his longing to recover his family's dignity and property that he claims they lost to Israel.
Without this and other elements that serve to break down the legitimacy of killing the men behind the attack on the Olympics, he says the film would not have been worth making. What Spielberg seems most proud of is the fact that those who seek to destroy Israel ? and either slaughter or scatter its people ? are not "demonized." They are, he insists, "individuals. They have families."
To which we can only reply, "So what?" You could say the same of the 9/11 hijackers, as well as the operatives of Hamas, and Fatah (from whom the members of "Black September" ? a front for the PLO ? came) who have cut down Jews in pizza parlors, bus stops and at Passover seders. And even go on and include the German villains of Spielberg's World War II films.
But the problem with this film isn't just an obsessive refusal to be judgmental about terrorism or the tedious speechifying that overwhelms the action. There's something even more insidious at play here.
The main character, the Israeli agent Avner (played by Eric Bana), doesn't just loose his marbles because of a mission whose efficacy might well be debated. Spielberg's Avner rejects not merely a policy but Israel itself, which he abandons for the apparently more humane confines of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Spielberg even uses an image of a still-standing World Trade Center to punctuate a scene in which Avner rejects Israel to lead us to falsely think 9/11 might have been avoided had America also abandoned the Jewish state.
That "Munich" would have such an anti-Zionist denouement (in contrast to "Schindler's List," which tearfully concluded with the playing of the song "Jerusalem of Gold") is unsurprising due to Kushner's involvement.
Though primarily known for his extravagantly praised plays about the plight of gays suffering from AIDS, Kushner is also a hardcore left-wing Jewish critic of Israel. He has edited a book of anti-Israel essays, and even told Ha'aretz that Israel's birth was a "mistake" he wished had never happened.
As for the director and prime mover of this project, in the years since the release of "Schindler's List" and his subsequent contributions to Holocaust remembrance projects, Spielberg has become something of a secular Jewish saint. As such, he's apparently worried enough about his image to employ former Middle East peace envoy Dennis Ross to spin for "Munich," in addition to Eyal Arad, a leading Israeli public-relations torpedo who also works for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
They may well succeed but if there was ever a movie that ought to provoke outrage, it is "Munich." The film concludes with a bizarre scene in which the disillusioned Avner daydreams (fantasizes?) about the actual events of the massacre while having sex with his wife. As their coupling reaches its conclusion, we see the bound Israeli athletes slaughtered by their Arab captors.
By this point, a weary audience that has been subjected to many other obvious and heavy-handed clich?s so familiar to Kushner's work is forced to wonder whether Avner now sees himself as one of the killers. At the same time, the audience is also being asked to see Israel and the war on terrorism as forces that are literally screwing the world.
Perhaps the fact that "Munich" is such poor entertainment will do more to limit the damage it does than anything said by its critics. But it would be a mistake to let this film pass without a response from those who care about the survival of both Israel and the West.
You don't have to insist that everything Israel or America does to fight terror is wise to understand that the war they're fighting is just. Judging the murderers and those who fight such criminals as morally equivalent is not wisdom. It is, as Steven Spielberg has now shown us, the ultimate obscenity.

Simantov Allalouf

BREAKING NEWS December 24 2005

Dear Friends,

I was about to send you this report from Arad, when news came in via Yakim and Debbie of a shocking riot in BEERSHEVA. Hundreds (if not more ) of Haredim have broken into the Beersheva assembly (about 40 minutes away from Arad) where a baptism was about to take place.

The police are there but unable to control the crowd, and the pastor, HOWARD BASS was thrown into the water. The place is filled with pregnant woman and children, and a real riot is taking place. We ask for your urgent prayers.

December 22, 2005

Shalom Friends!  Happy celebrations of Hanukkah and Christmas!  Be sure to thank God for the religious freedom to be able to celebrate: the time is coming in the USA and other places, when it will not be as easy.  There is NO religious freedom in Israel for believers, but we are going to try to have a celebration anyway.  We will let you know what happens.  My apologies for not sending this letter sooner.  It is difficult to keep up with everything.

The Haredim have put a lawsuit against a number of us believers accusing us of giving religious literature to minors.  We are very careful not to do that because there is a law in Israel about that.  However the Haredim are free to give all kinds of stuff to kids and to go into the schools and lecture children of all faiths about Judaism (their brand of Judaism).  Last evening we were again called to the police station for more questions.

They also put a lawsuit against Eddie again -- for assault - it is another trumped-up story of lies - it never happened.  They keep trying.  We have a court date of January 18, so please pray!  Remember, in Israel you are presumed guilty and must prove your innocence.

For a short time, most of the police seemed to be responding on a regular basis now and even being sympathetic toward us.  They see us as underdogs, but they are between a rock and a hard place.  The authorities have been transferring police out of Arad and bringing new ones in so we rarely deal with the same policemen. Many are new and do not understand what is happening, but the ones who are here from the beginning seem to be desirous of helping us.

There is an undercurrent here which is a little scary.  The secular Jews hate the Haredim but they view them as guardians of the Jewish state.   So the secular Jews defend us in person but there is a growing mob mentality that believes the lies of the Haredim.  I think it must be the same thing Y'shua felt in the weeks before the crucifixion.

As an example - I was having coffee downtown (outside) with 3 other ladies (2 were tourists).  The Haredim began their usual badgering and telling other people I am an missionary and I kidnap children, etc.  The general public began echoing their shouts.  Mob mentality.  The orthodox ladies came over and began telling the tourists not to talk to me, etc.  The men followed me to my car threatening, etc.  I have not shown any fear to them and so far they are afraid of me.  They didn't touch me, but if it had not been daylight - it might have been a different story.  They have beaten other believers here when they find them alone.   So we will see what the Lord wants to do here - it is a day by day, moment by moment situation.

We have had no help from the courts in getting a restraining order against the Haredim.  It seems to be a waste of our time, but I believe the Lord is allowing this to "fill up the cup of iniquity".  The Judge in Beersheva called our lawyer to his chambers and told him that we should not be pursuing a restraining order, but rather going to criminal court with our case.  So if we would agree to drop the restraining order request, he would see that we did not have to pay the court charges.  So we agreed because we viewed it as an answer to prayer not to have to pay the court costs.

Meanwhile, we praise the Lord, there are a few who are getting saved through the persecution and some secular Jews are actively involved in writing letters to the government, etc.

There are other believers here who have come out of the closet because of the persecution and at least two of the chess players have told us they are Christians.  One of the chess players has been hanging out with the Russian congregation.  So little by little, we are seeing a big change for the better in our group of people.

One of the other shop owners has told us to move out of the marketplace area because he doesn't like the Russians.  He put a complaint in at city hall against us, but it was silly and we don't think anything will come of it. We tried talking nice to him but he is an arrogant man who calls everybody else trash.  He has a dump of a jewelry shop and many of the Haredim are his clients.  I asked him to consider moving to the town center with the rest of the nice shops, so he wouldn’t have to see us, but that evoked an unprintable response. Oh well.

The outside work at our King’s Men shop is almost finished with the exception of the lights (no electricity yet) and I am putting the finishing touches on the painting in front (our logo, hours of operation, etc.)  Our shop is now like a fortress with steel and concrete all around it.  It looks nice from the outside and the inside is beginning to look nice too.

The electric company took the meter from our shop and we had to pay 2,100 shekels to buy a new one as they determined the one we had was damaged in the fire and not working properly.  Work has again come to a standstill since we need electricity to run the power tools, so that is a little frustrating, but we are trying to look at it from God's perspective.  All things are under His control and He has a reason for each detail.  We are planning a party on Shabbat in the afternoon for the chess players - Hanukah - Christmas.  It gives us a chance to read the story of Y’shua's birth from the Bible in Russian and Hebrew.  We are hoping to have electricity by Shabbat - that would be a miracle!  We are also praying for good weather - not too cold & no Haredim because our party will be outside.

Rebeka is starting a campaign in Arad  - "Arad says NO to racism"  she has found a human rights group to get behind it, and the city has given her the O.K. to do it.  The Haredim are extremely racist against the Ethiopians and the Jews who come from Arab countries, as well as, black Americans and Christians.  Any kind of dark-skinned person is an animal without a soul as far as they are concerned.  They are very verbal with their insults.

Three new believing families have moved into Arad in the past two months - we are happy about that and we heard that two more are moving here, specifically because of the situation.

On Monday, we called the police to come and deal with the harassment at the King's Men on Monday.  Instead of dealing with it, we were told they would arrest Rebeka the next time she called the police and charge her with harassing the Haredim (men and women).  She is the one who made the phone call, so they picked on her.  We called our lawyer and he was incredulous - he called the police and we have not heard back yet what is going on.

The police have also backed off on responding to the calls when the Haredim harass the members at the Congregation.  Last Saturday, they were very noisy outside the Congregation, blocking the entrance and the police did not come until the very end.  We are being told that they have a "right" to demonstrate. So things are still heating up here.

Meanwhile, Israel News Channel 10 is preparing to show our story soon.  We don't have an exact date yet, but the reporter told us maybe Sunday.  We are hoping to get someone to tape it for us. Pray for the Lord to use this news story to bring more people to HIM!

We are coming to a crossroads and the people of Arad are being given a chance to make a decision.  When the Lord has completed His plan using the Haredim, it will be over.  Until then, we are praying for Y'shua to be glorified in all of us in whatever way He chooses.

Vincent and Maryam are here from NY - and he is doing teaching on Monday evenings at our house.  We have a buffet first, then teaching and prayer.  We had 20 people here for the first Monday - good turnout.

We PRAISE the Lord and are very grateful for donations to fix up the place – it is an encouraging way to begin our 3rd year (February, 2006)!  What a tremendous witness! We are grateful for all the sacrifices each of you made to help us!

We saved the best for last!  We have an opportunity/a gift from God to expand our ministry.  The Russian restaurant that is adjacent to us will be going up for sale in the next two years.  In the meantime, the owners are willing to rent to us.  The restaurant is the size of 10 shops.  They are willing to rent to us for $900./month.  And eventually sell to us!  There are few shops that are this size for this price.  It would provide a place for believers to sell their home-made items and earn some money to support their families.  It would give us room to offer used clothing and other items to people every day instead of just market day.  People would be able to come in and browse through the books and have a cup of coffee or tea while they read.  It is big enough to have a section just for tutoring people in English or other studies.

So many believers cannot hold jobs because of the persecution and pressure the Haredim put on the employers.  This would be a place which would cater to tourists and secular people.  There are so many possibilities that it is mind-boggling.  If you know of someone who wants to invest in Israel and buy this property, please get in touch with us.  The believers need to have a place where the landlord will not throw them out.

So we are walking in victory here - we are wearing our T-shirts with Bible verses on them.  We are not hiding.  We are trying to cultivate thankful hearts for everything and praising the Lord! We are thankful for the privilege of being counted worthy in His sight to suffer for His Name!  We are blessed to have you for friends and we are grateful to you for standing with us!  Come and visit!  Love in Y’shua’s  Precious Name!

Lura and Eddie Beckford, Arad, Israel

  Discovering the Jewish Jesus

------------------------- --------
& nbsp;   &n bsp; SHMULEY BOTEACH, THE JERUSALEM POST   Dec. 7, 2005
------------------------- --------
Jesus Christ is the most famous Jew of all time, but is today remembered as a Christian.   Surprisingly, the Jewish community has accepted this distortion of history, and tends to regard Jesus as an apostate. How odd that the Jews would accept a Christian version of one of their brethren rather than seeking to discover the man entombed beneath the myth.   Like a mummy whose bandages must be removed, 2,000 years of Christian gauze must be stripped away so we may discover the Jewish Jesus. We may do so by reading the original story of Jesus in the New Testament, before it was modified by Pauline and Lucan editors, who worked after the failed Jewish rebellion against Rome in the years 66-70, and whose intention it was to make Jesus less Jewish and more Roman, less a political rebel against Roman rule and more a Jewish religious revolutionary who inveighed against a corrupt Jewish hierarchy.   These Christian editors hid the real Jesus' message of political revolution agains!
 t Rome,
thereby transforming him into a sound-bite-speaking do-gooder who loved the Romans and hated his people.

THE REAL Jesus was a deeply religious Jewish patriot who despised the Romans for their cruelty to his people and for their paganism. He never once abrogated the laws of the Torah, and expressly condemned those who advocated doing so (Matt. 5:18). Jesus walked the earth with a yarmulke and a beard rather than a halo and a cross.   The portrayal of Jesus as being at odds with the Pharisees, the Jewish rabbinical leadership, is a later Christian device designed to implicate the Jews in Jesus' death. The proof that Jesus was a committed Pharisee throughout his life can be gleaned from how nearly all of his teachings are merely restatements of classical biblical and Pharisaic (talmudic) teachings.

Examples include some of Jesus' most celebrated sayings, like the Sermon on the Mount's "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth," which is a restatement of Psalms 3: "The meek shall inherit the earth, and delight themselves in the abundance of peace."

Likewise, Jesus' pronouncement that "If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also" (Matt. 5:39) is a restatement of Lamentations 3:30: "Let him offer his cheek to him who smites him."   When Jesus is described by the Gospels as desecrating the Sabbath, he offers well-reasoned talmudic arguments for doing so, arguments based on sound Pharisaic teachings. As Hyam Maccoby writes in The Mythmaker: "Jesus' celebrated saying, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath' is found almost word for word in a Pharisee source, where it is used to support the [rabbinical] doctrine that the saving of life takes precedence over the law of the Sabbath."

Jesus shows no interest in founding a new religion or in converting non-Jews, a point he makes repeatedly in the Gospels. Indeed, at various points Jesus expresses contempt for Gentiles (Matt: 10: 5-7, Matt. 15:22-26), an attitude that would be consistent with the extreme anti-Romanism he preached.

WHILE CLAIMING to be the Jewish messiah, Jesus did so only in the Jewish historical sense of a promised Jewish king who would arise to fight Israel's enemies, evict them from Israel and reestablish Jewish sovereignty over the Holy Land. Fired by his religious zealotry, Jesus' intention was to lead a political insurrection against Roman occupation, for which he was killed.

Luke 23:2 makes it abundantly clear that the charge against Jesus was political rebellion: "We found this fellow perverting the nation and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a King." This is also why we find Jesus instructing his followers each to buy a sword, in preparation for a military action with the Roman cohort in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The Romans ordered his swift execution because any claimant to the throne of David was met with instant crucifixion. Jesus' enemy was therefore the corrupt Jewish High Priest, Caiaphas, who was Rome's political muscle in Jerusalem and was despised by his fellow Jews as a collaborator.

Indeed, Luke 13:31 makes it clear that the rabbis had previously saved Jesus' life, and that the Pharisees later saved the lives of Peter, Paul, and the rest of the apostles from execution by the corrupt High Priest and his cronies (Acts 5:33-40; 23:6-9).

MANY JEWS today believe that the rabbis hated Jesus because he claimed to be divine, but he never made any such claim. His oft-repeated _expression, "Son of Man," is common among Jewish prophets, especially Ezekiel. Likewise, Jesus' penchant for speaking in God's name in the first person singular is practiced by Moses in Deuteronomy and by Elijah in the book of Kings. Prophets often failed to distinguish between themselves and God, since they were deputized to speak in God's name.   Later, after millions of Jews were killed in the revolt of the years 66-70, the Gospels were edited to purge Jesus of any trace of anti-Roman vitriol. The story was changed to a conflict between Jesus and the hated Jews rather than Jesus and the powerful Romans. But the editing was incomplete, and a great deal of the original story remains, especially since there were so many different Gospel texts.   The transformation of Jesus from lover of Israel to a sworn enemy of the Jewish people, with J!
 ohn 8
quoting Jesus as berating the Jews as children of Satan who are condemned to damnation in hell, is a contemptible act of character manipulation that led to 2,000 tragic years of Christian anti-Judaism.

Restoring Jesus to his Jewish roots, by contrast, could usher in a new era of Jewish-Christian rapprochement. Jews and Christians may not meet through the same religion. But for the first time in two millennia they can forge a bond of kinship using the personality of Jesus of Nazareth as a bridge, even as they continue to understand him in completely different ways.

EUROPE'S "GOOD JEWS"

Europe's "Good Jews"
Emanuele Ottolenghi
Isralert.com source: http://www.commentarymagazine.com/article.asp?aid=12005044_1" title="http://www.commentarymagazine.com/article.asp?aid=12005044_1" target="_blank"http://www.commentarymagazine...

It is common knowledge that anti-Semitism in Western Europe has been on the rise for the last five years. Its frequency and intensity have coincided for
the most part with the curve of violence in the Middle East, and with the
incendiary and openly slanted way that this violence has been covered in the
European media. But expressions of anti-Semitism have also taken on a life, and a momentum, of their own. Of course, Jews in Europe have not been deprived of property, expelled, or deported; but they have been subjected to physical violence, insults, libelous attacks in the press and in intellectual circles, accusations of disloyalty, and much else besides.

All of this has been thoroughly documented. Known, too, are the factors that
have contributed to the astonishing recrudescence of a hatred thought to have been long uprooted from pluralist, tolerant Europe. Those factors include the open hostility of some European governments to the state of Israel and their active sympathy with the Arab and Palestinian "cause," even to the point of justifying Arab terrorism against civilian Israeli Jews; the felt need on the part of European elites to accommodate the often murderous anti-Semitism within the immigrant Muslim community; and the alignment of European leftist and "progressive" opinion behind the idea of Israel as the new Nazi Germany, according to which those European Jews who support Israel are relegated to the category of racists until proved otherwise.

To be sure, it is regularly and vigorously denied that contemporary hostility
to Israel and its Jewish supporters is itself in the least bit anti-Semitic;
rather, it is held to be solely an expression of disagreement with particular
policies of the Israeli government. To draw a parallel between this and past
variants of European anti-Semitism, especially of the Nazi type, is thus
dismissed as a species of moral blackmail.

There is something to this argument, although not much, and then only when it is couched in such extreme terms. The Nazi card is a powerful rhetorical
weapon, no matter who plays it-as the anti-Israel side, quick to condemn
Israel itself as a replica of Nazi Germany, knows better than anyone. But to
help put matters into historical perspective, I want to focus here on a
particular feature of the new European anti-Semitism that has been less
commented on. This is the crucial role played by some European Jews
themselves, mostly intellectuals or academics, who have responded to the
latest assault on the Jewish people by excusing it, justifying it, and in
effect joining it.

In October 2002, a number of leading European authors discussed Israel's
conduct in the pages of the London Independent. For one of these writers, it
was plain that Israel had "adopted tactics which are reminiscent of the
Nazis." For another, it was no less plain that the Israelis "were educated by
the Nazis." And so it went. Such assertions, staples of Arab and Palestinian
propaganda, have by now assumed canonical status in liberal European opinion..

But what, aside from rhetorical bombast, is meant by the term "Nazi" in such
statements? Ultimately, the evil that Israel is said to embody is the evil of
an extreme, aggressive, and racially exclusive nationalism-that is, the very
same disease that Europe, in the aftermath of Hitler and the Holocaust, has
sought so strenuously and with such success "to limit, transcend, and
overcome" (in the flattering words of the historian Anatol Lieven). Now this
great sickness is alleged to have returned in the lurid form of present-day
Israel, throwing the whole world into turmoil and disturbing the hard-won
tranquility of post-nationalist Europe by inflaming the passions of its rising
Muslim population.

Hence the obsessive intensity with which European elites have focused on a
territorial conflict that, in the scale of the world's problems, would seem
rather less worthy of their concern, let alone of their one-sided rage, than
many another. For, in the end, this is their conflict as well, involving as it
does their own twisted and morally compromised history with the Jews.
Involving-and perhaps mitigating. As I am hardly the first to have observed,
Europeans have seized upon the Palestinian intifada, or rather upon Israel's
determined response to it, as an opportunity at last to turn the moral tables,
a chance, however specious, to hold not themselves but the Jews to account.

The Italian columnist Barbara Spinelli, writing in La Stampa, spelled out the
charge a few years ago. Today's ultra-nationalist Israel, she wrote,
constitutes nothing less than a "scandal." And it is a scandal, above all, for
Jews themselves-since, as every European knows, Jews are the quintessential victims of modern nationalism (nationalism being, for Spinelli as for many other Europeans, virtually coterminous with Nazism). It follows, then, that Jews everywhere have a special duty to speak out against Israel, to apologize to its victims, and to do so in public.

"If one thing is missing in Judaism," Spinelli wrote in late 2001, "this is
precisely it: a mea culpa vis-à-vis the peoples and individuals who had to pay the price of blood and exile to allow Israel to exist." She called upon world Jewry to undertake such an act of contrition forthwith:

If the initiative does not come from Jerusalem then it should start in the
Diaspora, where so many Jews live a double and contradictory loyalty: to
Israel, and to the state they belong to and vote in. A solemn mea culpa,
proclaimed from the scattered communities in the West. . . .

This call to Europe's "good Jews," as they might be called, has in fact been
answered. For the most part, those answering it have been not the long-term, all-out, rabid haters of Israel of the Harold Pinter or (in American terms)
Noam Chomsky stripe, who need no excuse and waste no pieties in reviling the Jewish state. Pinter, for example, who has termed Israel "the central factor in world unrest," and has accused it of using nuclear weapons against the Palestinians, hardly stoops to identifying himself as a Jew concerned for the welfare of his fellow Jews. Most "good Jews" are of a somewhat different
complexion. Not only do they tend to speak more circumspectly but, with
whatever degree of disingenuousness, they cloak their hostility to Jewish
nationalism (i.e., Israel) in the mantle of solicitude for, precisely, the
good name of Jews and Judaism.

Thus, writing in Britain's weekly Spectator earlier this year, one Anthony
Lippman issued just such a mea culpa as Barbara Spinelli may have dreamed of.. Himself the son of a Holocaust survivor, albeit a convert to Christianity and an active member of the Church of England, Lippman was moved temporarily to reclaim his patrimony. Writing under the title, "How I Became a Jew," he averred that the "little band" of Holocaust survivors in Europe

has a terrible responsibility-to live well in the name of those who did not
live and to discourage the building of walls and bulldozing of villages. Even
more than this, they-and all Jews-need to be the voice of conscience that will
prevent Israel from adopting the mantle of oppressor, and to reject the label
"anti-Semite" for those who speak out against Israel's policies in the
occupied territories.

Similarly responding to the claims of an awakened Jewish conscience has been the British academic Jacqueline Rose. In her book, The Question of Zion (2005), Rose undertakes to save Judaism itself from the curse of its movement of national liberation. "What is it," she asks, "about the coming into being of this nation [Israel] and the [Zionist] movement out of which it was born, that allowed it-and still allows it-to shed the burdens of its own history, and so flagrantly to blind itself?" Zionism, she concludes, has to be seen not as the fulfillment of an age-old Jewish dream but as the out-and-out betrayal of Jewish history and the Jewish heritage, an adoption of all that is,
historically and morally, un-Jewish.

Can the disease that is Zionism be cured? Yes, Rose and others assure us, but only by a thorough-going renunciation. In the pre-Israel past, she writes,
"dissident voices" in the Jewish world warned against the terrible
consequences that would flow from the effort to win a state for the Jews;
although silenced and repressed then, they are needed more then ever today, during the Jews' "dark night of the soul."

No one can say that such voices have not been forthcoming. In the August 8,
2002 Guardian, 45 Jewish signatories, in a widely hailed act of public
abjuration, repudiated their right of return to the Jewish state on account of
its racist policies. Since the statement's original publication, it has been
signed by over 80 more individuals from around the world. One of the
organizers subsequently explained that what motivated him to act was the
"pitiless violence" of his "blood relatives," i.e., the Israeli people-the
"violence," as he put it, of the "traumatized former victim, clinging to past
wounds from generation unto generation."

The publicity attending this and similar initiatives by European Jews, abetted
in some cases by their Israeli counterparts, has been very great. There was
tremendous excitement in Europe over the declaration by 99 Israeli academics that their government was planning an imminent "full-fledged ethnic cleansing" of the Palestinian people (a charge that was not withdrawn when the alleged genocidal atrocity failed to occur), and again over the refusal of a few hundred Israeli army reservists to serve in the administered territories. There was even greater excitement when several European Jewish academics turned up among the instigators of a movement to boycott Israeli academic institutions, and yet again when a number of Jewish politicians called for the boycott of Israeli commercial products.

Among the latter group was the British parliamentarian Oona King, who in June 2003, comparing Israel's treatment of Palestinians in Gaza with the Nazi treatment of Jews in the Warsaw ghetto, spoke of her personal "shame" as a "Jewish person" (her father is Jewish). A year later, Gerald Kaufman, another member of the British Parliament, called for a boycott of Israeli goods on similar grounds, as, in South Africa, did Ronnie Kasrils, a government minister: "As a person who was born Jewish, I am morally obliged to speak out against what is being done by the Zionist state of Israel to the Palestinian people."

Many others have likewise seen it as their specifically Jewish duty to
denounce Israel. Their ranks include all three proponents of a motion,
"Zionism is the real enemy of the Jews today," aired at a public debate in
London early this year. One of them was the historian Avi Shlaim. Like others before him, he too felt the need to advertise his Jewish virtuousness by writing about it for publication. In a subsequent op-ed in the International
Herald Tribune, he justified the implacable anti-Zionism on which he has based his academic career by appealing to a faith he does not appear ever to have practiced: "One of the greatest accolades in Judaism," he instructed his readers, "is to be a rodef shalom, a seeker of peace."

The assertions of Jews like these are often buttressed by a particular
narrative of the history of Zionism. The narrative itself has been thoroughly
debunked,* but here I want to concentrate less on its veracity or rather lack
of it than on the terms in which its main thesis is often expressed. These are
revealing.

According to this reconstruction of the past, the achievements of Zionism
involved, for the Jews, a fatal loss of moral and historical innocence. In
order for the state of Israel to be born in 1948, unspeakable crimes were
committed against the Palestinian people. Zionist leaders then entered into a conspiracy of silence to conceal these awful events from the Jewish public..
Not until the 1980's did a small, intrepid band of scholars-Israel's so-called
New Historians-emerge to uncover the evidence and expose the hidden truth.

Zionism's precipitous descent, from the noble liberal vision of Theodor Herzl
to the obloquy of mass expulsions and worse, was characterized in 1988 by
Benny Morris, a leading New Historian, in striking language:

How one perceives [Israel's war of independence in] 1948 bears heavily on how one perceives the whole Zionist/Israeli experience. If Israel, the haven of a much-persecuted people, was born pure and innocent, then it is worthy of the grace, material assistance, and political support showered upon it by the West over the past 40 years-and worthy of more of the same in years to come. If, on the other hand, Israel was born tarnished, besmirched by original sin, then it was no more deserving of that grace and assistance than were its neighbors.

"Grace," "purity," "original sin"-Christological vocabulary of this kind
recurs frequently in the rhetoric of certain scholarly and journalistic
discussions of Israel's birth. Avi Shlaim, for instance, has mocked those who
persist in conceiving of Israel's War of Independence as a struggle against
Arab aggression. They hold, he writes with savage sarcasm, to the idea of "an immaculate conception." Worse, they do so perfidiously, for both material and moral gain, thus aspiring to the roles of Judas and Jesus simultaneously:

[They] put so much store by Israel's claim to moral rectitude that they cannot
face up to the evidence of cynical Israeli double-dealings or brutal dispersal
and dispossession of the Palestinians. It is an axiom of their narrative that
Israel is the innocent victim. Not content with the thirty pieces of silver,
these people insist on retaining for Israel the crown of thorns. [emphasis
added]

But, if the brutality with which Israel is charged was indeed inherent to the
project that led to its creation-as the notion of original sin suggests-how
can it possibly be made good? That European Jews should wash their hands of the Jewish state goes without saying. But what is required of Israel itself? For this there is an answer as well. Both logically and, as it were,
theologically, the only remedy lies in the political equivalent of conversion.

For Israel, in this analysis, entrance into a new life of grace is contingent
on shedding its identity as the Jewish national state. Instead, it must agree
to a unitary, binational arrangement with the Palestinians. Only thus might
the state of the Jews yet wash away the stain of its original sin.

The signatories of the 2002 letter in the Guardian were explicit on this
point. No mere condemnation of Israel's allegedly brutal behavior would
satisfy the demands of their Jewish conscience. What was necessary was the dissolution of Israel itself, its place to be taken by a new entity that would
no longer be ruled by Jews but in which Jews and Palestinian Arabs would at last live together peacefully as equals.

Of course, this is absurd-a fancy-dress re-wording of longstanding Arab
propaganda about the illegitimacy of Israel's national existence. It is also
hypocritical: Europeans who expend such vast quantities of energy lecturing
Israel on its supposed hypernationalist instincts give no thought whatsoever
to ridding the Arabs of their own, rather more vivid, forms of nationalist
sentiment. But for those European Jews who embrace the modish conviction that nationalism is not just a sin but the root of all modern evil, the fantasy of
Israel's de-nationalization serves another purpose. It ensures their own
conformity with the latest European thinking on the best way for human beings to organize themselves in society-namely, as good Europeans.

Such, at any rate, was the burden of a notorious 2003 essay by Tony Judt, a
British historian now living in the U.S. For Judt, writing in the New York
Review of Books, contemporary European anti-Semitism, insofar as it exists, has been the wholly foreseeable result of bad Jewish (that is, Israeli)
behavior. And just as the Jews of Israel have only themselves to blame for the fact that the enlightened world condemns them, so they can relieve their
suffering, and incidentally that of their fellow Jews around the world who
have been implicated in their black deeds, through compensatory acts of
self-effacement and re-dedication.

Here, in Judt's words, is the root sin of which Israel is guilty:

In a world where nations and peoples increasingly intermingle and intermarry
at will; where cultural and national impediments to communication have all but collapsed; where more and more of us have multiple elective identities and would feel falsely constrained if we had to answer to just one of them; in
such a world Israel is truly an anachronism. And not just an anachronism but a dysfunctional one.

And here, again in Judt's words, is the path to remission from sin:

To convert Israel from a Jewish state to a binational one would not be easy,
though not quite as impossible as it sounds: the process has already begun de facto. But it would cause far less disruption to most Jews and Arabs than its religious and nationalist foes will claim.

The use of the word "convert" is again no accident.

In seeking to explain the seemingly obsessive need for Jewish self-negation
that is on display in examples like these and others, psychologists of the
future will have their work cut out for them. And if we were dealing with only
a few anti-Zionist Jews impelled to act out their personal identity problems
in public, we could safely leave them to those future psychologists.
Unfortunately, even though such individuals are not many in number, and even though their arguments are invariably mendacious and easily refuted, they, and the many grouplets that have sprung up to represent them, enjoy great acclaim in today's Europe, and together they have done incalculable damage by lending a Jewish imprimatur to the anti-Israel cause.*

One evening last spring, the UK branch of Peace Now hosted a debate on the Israel-Palestinian conflict at London's School of Oriental and African
Studies. Taking the Israeli side, ironically enough, was Benny Morris, the
pioneer New Historian. (In recent years Morris has found himself at odds with some of his colleagues since he still supports Israel's right to exist; he has also begun to entertain second and third thoughts on the issue of Zionism's "original sin.") Opposing him was Ahmed Khalidi, a Western-educated scion of Palestinian aristocracy and a "moderate" who is willing to negotiate Israel's demise diplomatically rather than advocating its destruction through violence.

During the question-and-answer period, a frail student stood up to make an
impassioned plea. "I want to express my gratitude to you, Dr. Khalidi," said
this young woman, "for your willingness to share Palestine with the Jews as a common patrimony." ("Common patrimony" was the anodyne catchphrase Khalidi had coined to promote his one-state solution, i.e., the dissolution of Israel.) Such conspicuous, large-hearted charity, the student went on, heedless of her choice of ancient religious antinomies, stood in sharp contrast to the miserly approach of Benny Morris, who had insisted on Israel's right to continue its national existence. "As a Jew," she concluded her address to Khalidi, "I feel ashamed that your land was taken away from you in my name and that of my ancestors. It is my duty as a Jew to stand up for justice." If indeed she stood up in shame, she sat down to thunderous applause.

In statements like this, one cannot but notice the recurrence not only of
those enduring theological tropes but of a certain very dangerous dance in
which European Jews have long participated. Today, as yesterday, Jewish
"particularism," then religious, now national, remains a thorn in Europe's
side. Today, as yesterday, removing the thorn involves a renunciation of
particularism followed by an espousal of the regnant form of universal
salvation-then Christianity, now the tenets of humanistic liberalism.

This is not 1930's-style anti-Semitism; in that narrow sense, anti-Israel
Europeans are correct in protesting that they are not anti-Semites.
Nevertheless, it is an age-old form of anti-Semitism, and one that has always
called forth a typical pattern of response on the part of the Jews under
scrutiny. For most, the choices are to lie low in hopes that the trouble will
pass, to pick up and seek life elsewhere, or to resist and oppose to the
extent they can. We have seen all three responses in European Jewish society over the last years, each bearing its cost. Some, however, take a different route, finding favor and reward by exerting every effort to assimilate
themselves to whatever is required of them, including to the point of publicly
dissociating themselves from their people's history and fate. As ever with
such maneuvers, exculpatory rationalizations must be found, and are readily at hand.

Unlike the case in pre-Enlightenment Europe, present-day anti-Semitism does not expect Jews to abandon their religion. Today's Europe is a
self-consciously multicultural society. Although it cherishes secularism above
all, it respects, if somewhat warily, religious pluralism. What the
enlightened sector of today's Europe would like Jews to do, in exchange for
fully approved membership in the circle of approved opinion, is to renounce a core component of their identity: that is, their sense of Jewish peoplehood as expressed through their attachment and commitment to the democratic state of Israel and to the Zionist enterprise.

What remains constant is that, as in both pre- and post-Enlightenment Europe, today's European elite has its good Jews and its bad Jews. There are the Jews whom it embraces, encourages, and celebrates; and then there are the Jews whom it castises and condemns. For the former, there will always be a place of honor in the European sun. On the latter, today's officially pluralist and tolerant Europe has turned its back. Is it any wonder, then, that some "good Jews" have chosen to live in the light, stopping only to burnish their qualifications by noisily joining the chorus that has consigned their fellow Jews to the dark?

Just Wondering
By Batya Medad

I'm just wondering. Does anyone know if Arik Sharon is a card player? We know that Sharansky plays chess, which is a very different type of game. What do the other politicians do to keep their minds sharp or entertain themselves? And please don't say the obvious that they don't have any minds to sharpen..

Seriously. Sharon is like one those circus entertainers, talking fast while shuffling the deck accordion-style, pocketing cards and pulling them out from his sleeves while our eyes are being distracted by his three ring circus.

Does anyone really know what's going on?

There are some really amazing things happening in the political spheres here in Israel. Some of it is actually "Moshiach-like." At least from how I see it. I've never voted for a religious party, because I don't believe that they should exist. I think that religious needs should be guarded by all. Religious and Chareidi education shouldn't be dominated by politicians of special-interest parties. And if there was an "Anglo" party of English-speaking Israelis, I wouldn't vote for it either. Immigrant needs should be the concern of all. And ditto for a party claiming to represent the yishuvim. I'm an Israeli and I expect, demand that the entire country, the entire population support settlement. All this separation, special interest groups as political parties is bad for Israeli society.

So now since Sharon has decided to establish a brand new party, suddenly there's more change in the Israeli political scene than most countries see in fifty years. One of the greatest things is that the religious parties are starting to re-evaluate. Not only is the NRP, National Religious Party, (Mafdal), negotiating with the NU, National Union, but even some of the Chareidim are waking up and talking about a united block with the right wing parties
I think it's wonderful that he has created Kadima, his new political party. It has forced us all to look at Israeli politics and government differently. We now have a real opportunity to change, to make things better.

This is our chance to deal a new hand, a winning one.

Shalom Everyone,

It is not often that we send out an Extra Alert, but we feel that the following testimonies are important to share with you who are praying to show you how God has answered your prayers.

The first testimony comes from a believing female soldier in the IDF. The second is an analysis from Jerusalem Post. It points out that the defeat has been so severe for Hizb'Allah this week that they predict there will be another round.

So, let's be encouraged. Let's continue to thank the Eternal and let's keep up the prayers! It works and it is necessary. There is more coming on the northern front.

God bless you as watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem!

Lars and Harriet Enarson

"Dear praying friends of Israel,

"The Lord has done many wonders in these war days, 21-22 of November, in northern Israeli-Lebanonise border.

"I am a soldier and as part of my job I visited one of the places attacked only a few hours since it all started. I was shocked to see the heavy damage caused to this place, but I knew it was God's hand that protected the soldiers there, and even they admitted that it was indeed very unusual that no one was killed in such damage!

"I myself worked there to help get damages tanks out. All night I and my people worked there, and in the morning we had to get out of that place for a reason. An hour later we were back, and were amazed to find 3 bombs lying exactly where we were standing! No doubt God's angels were very busy protecting us.

"Many more miracles took place, and as one of the very fighting forces there I thanked the Lord for you guys and many more praying warriors who fought for us in the heavenlies while we fought our earthly enemy! Thank you and God bless you!

"Shlomit (I am a 20-year-old Jewish girl who is a commander in the military for the last 2 years.)" (End quote)

"Analysis: Bad week for Hizbullah By ARIEH O'SULLIVAN

"It was condemned by the United Nations, dozens of its fighters were killed or wounded in a botched assault on Galilee, a chance to nab an Israeli hostage slipped through its fingers and a local spy was captured.

"All in all it was a bad week for Hizbullah. So bad, that the IDF remains on alert for another attack.

'Hizbullah is in distress,' was the mantra repeated this week by senior IDF officials and Lebanon watchers.

"If Hizbullah wanted to divert the spotlight from Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime over involvement in the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, it only ended up putting Lebanon's plight more in the news.

"If it hoped to be able to score beauty points at home on Lebanon's national day by presenting itself as national protector against the Zionist aggressors, it only succeeded in exposing itself as a fraud.

"And it suffered one of its most significant military defeats in its history of daring clashes with the IDF. Military sources said that Hizbullah had been planning Monday's assault for months with the aim of a highly visible victory - either killing many Israeli soldiers or more likely kidnapping them and parading them in Beirut.

"For this purpose it brought in its elite fighters, equipped with motorbikes and all-terrain vehicles, and struck at 20 IDF outposts nearly simultaneously with scores of mortar shells and anti-tank rounds. The result? A few wounded Israeli soldiers.

"The butcher's bill? Seven Hizbullah fighters dead and dozens wounded, and it is begging for the return of the bodies of three gunmen Israel is holding. It abandoned all of its border outposts in southern Lebanon, and the IDF, taking advantage of the opportunity, destroyed 13 of them, including its brigade-level headquarters, military sources said.

'We know they were in distress because their initial statements were so outlandish, downright lies,' said a senior officer.

"Sheikh Nabil Kauq, head of Hizbullah in south Lebanon, boasted on TV that his fighters had destroyed Israeli tanks and armored vehicles and inflicted heavy casualties. 'Crack Israeli troops were slaughtered,' he said. Their biggest lie was their claim Israel had started it by entering Lebanon first.

"What was Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah thinking he could gain by launching this attack? 'They wanted to show there was still Israeli aggression that requires defense on the border and that they were the defenders of the border. They wanted to quash talk of disarming them,' said Lt.-Col. (res.) Moshe Marzuk, a former head of the Lebanon desk in IDF intelligence.

'But it boomeranged. Not only did the UN Security Council condemn them for starting the attack, but so did Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora,' said Marzuk, today a researcher at the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism.

"Caught so brazenly in its own lies, Hizbullah started to do damage control to its credibility and for the first time retracted an earlier statement that Israeli warplanes had struck again in Lebanon. It said an explosion had been caused instead by a previously unexploded artillery shell.

"Military sources note there is increasing support in Lebanon to take on Hizbullah's armed militia. They noted that Saniora has asked the Europeans to help him strengthen his army to face Hizbullah.

'This week has weakened Hizbullah. It demonstrated them as liars to the Lebanese people and troublemakers to the world,' Marzuk said.

"But he predicted that in the short run, Hizbullah was likely determined to keep the fire burning with Israel to justify its arms.

'The moment they are disarmed, they will be severely weakened,' Marzuk said." (End quote)

Hezbollah attacks along Israel’s northern border to cover

an attempted abduction of Israeli soldiers

The IDF and Hezbollah exchange fire during the rescue operation of an Israeli civilian
whose hang glider drifted over the border into Lebanon

On the afternoon of November 23 the hang glider of an Israeli civilian drifted into Lebanese territory. He had been flying to the west of Kibbutz Manara, close to the Lebanese border. The hang glider fell in Lebanese territory and was rescued by IDF soldiers. During the rescue operation there was an exchange of fire between the IDF and Hezbollah operatives who wanted to take the hang glider's pilot captive.

Hezbollah spokesmen presented the event as “Israeli escalation” and an additional sign of Israeli “aggression” against Lebanon . Nabil Qaouk , in charge of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon , in an interview conducted during the fighting, stressed Hezbollah's “right” to defend Lebanon and threatened to respond to Israel 's “violation” (Al-Jazeera TV, November 23).

On November 22 at the end of deliberations, the UN Security Council and the Secretary general issued announcements deplored in the strongest terms the heavy fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border (along the blue line 1). They appealed for all parties to return to calm and exercise utmost restraint. The announcements stated unequivocally that the hostilities were initiated by Hezbollah from the Lebanese side of the border . The Secretary General's announcement also noted that during the hostilities, which spread along the Israeli-Lebanese border, Israeli population centers were the target of [Hezbollah] fire (From the UN Home Page and Agence France-Press, November 22, 2005)

The previous announcement made by Undersecretary General for Political Affairs called upon the Lebanese government to extend its control over all of its territories [i.e., including south Lebanon, which is under Hezbollah control] and exert its monopoly on the use of arms [i.e., to divest Hezbollah of the role it took upon itself as Lebanon's “protector”].

Hezbollah launches a media attack to turn its failure to abduct IDF soldiers
into a victory in its confrontation with Israel

Hezbollah, having failed in its attempt to abduct Israeli soldiers, launched a media attack to present its failure as a “defeat” for Israel , stressing Hezbollah's determination to “liberate” Shebaa Farms, to return prisoners held by Israel and to protect Lebanese sovereignty.

Sheikh Nabil Qaouk , Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon , boasted that Hezbollah's jihad warriors had taken part in a massive confrontation from Rosh Haniqra to the Hermon 2 and had defeated élite Israeli forces. He bragged that IDF posts were “weaker than spider webs” and that élite IDF soldiers had turned tail and fled from Hezbollah warriors (Al-Manar TV, November 22). Sheikh Qaouk threatened that Israel would “not have an instant of security and tranquility” as long as Hezbollah's weapons and youths were to be found along the lines of confrontation (Lebanese News Agency, November 22).

An attempt to turn its operational failure to abduct Israeli soldiers into a media victory: “Élite Israeli forces turned tail and fled…” Sheikh Nabil Qaouk during the funeral of Yussuf Barakat (Al-Manar TV November 23)

Hezbollah spokesmen stated that Israel 's dropping of leaflets proved its military failure. One of the spokesmen, Muhammad ‘Afif, said that “the enemy speaks to us with leaflets when he cannot speak to us on the battlefield (Internet site of Hezbollah newspaper Al-Intiqad, November 23). On November 23 Al-Manar TV bragged that with the exception of the leaflets, Israel had no response to the media coverage of Hezbollah's “battle information” which accompanied the incident (Hezbollah does in fact make extensive use of Al-Manar TV and its other media outlets as integral parts of is terrorist-operative activities).

I think we are in serious trouble here.

Our northern border has been under attack all day by Hizbullah Terrorist. There has been 14 IDF soldiers injured and several Hizbullah terrorist killed as they crossed the border with motorbikes and scooters with the intent to kidnap IDF soldiers or Israeli civilians. They were confronted with IDF soldiers in hand to hand combat. In order to give the Hizbullah raiders support they shelled Jewish towns in the northern border, Metula and Snier causing the residence to spend the day and this night in bomb shelters as Hizbullah shelled them with Katyusha rockets. They have now started shelling the town of Kiryat Shmona as well.

Israeli warplanes and IDF artillery are hitting back at the Hizbullah bases in southern Lebanon we don’t know what damage that our raids on their bases have caused to the Hizbullah at this time.

It is now being reported that bands of Palestinian fighters who were trained in Syria out of the refugee camps from Lebanon are headed toward the border to join the fight and try to filtrate Israel.

It is known that President Assad of Syria is ordering Hizbullah to attack in order to get the UN and US pressure off of him, this is what we all have expected this wild crazy man to do. How far he will go with it remains to be seen, but it could very easily escalate into a full regional war if it gets much worse.

Egypt

President Mubarak of Egypt is between a rock and a hard spot, as the Moslem brotherhood (formed during the second world war by the Nazis) is joining up with al-Quaida in the Sinai and moving freely now into Gaza and the southern Negev of Israel making routs into Judean and Samaria. The Egyptian Government who now find themselves with a real threat as the Moslem Brotherhood has made such a strong showing in the elections and are known enemies to Mubarak. This Islamic Arab Dictator like Assad and Hussein and the rest of them only know one course of action when under pressure, that is to start a war in order to unite their people behind them. Now with Hizbullah attacking our northern border, Iran ready to join in possibly this would be a good time to kick this whole thing off and see once again if they could possible destroy Israel, for the hatred of Israel is the one thing that unites the Arab world. With the Moslem Brotherhood joining up with al-Qaida in the Sinai putting Mubarak’s regime in serious trouble and possibly being faced with a coup but he may find another war with Israel more favorable than being overthrown.

Sharon

Sharon feels like he has a job to finish and would be unable to accomplish what he feels must be done, the destruction of the Jewish presence in Judean and Samaria, the next step in the destruction of the State of Israel. So he has left Likud after nearly destroying it and now wants to form a new centralist government. He knows if he stayed in Likud he would be unable to accomplish what he and George Bush have planned so he will try to do it from another angle by forming a new Political party.

There may be a surprise coming to him because if Likud can put together 61 MK’s they can postpone the election until it reaches it full term, this would hurt Sharon. But it is doubtful they will be able to do that. In the mean time Sharon has left Likud with a large group of MK’s all fighting to be the next head of the party in hopes of being the next Prime Minister. In fact this whole thing is so complicated I won’t even try to explain it. Added to the Likud situation Labor has their new leader and he wants to give Israel away even faster than Sharon does.

But the Islamic Terrorist that surround us may have a different idea and think this is the right time to make their move, one thing is certain we will all see very soon. Iran and Syria are doing their part to bring others into this fight on our northern borders, and at any time they could cut loose with 13,000 missiles killing a lot of Jews in the northern part of the country. That certainly would force Israel to attack Damascus and bring Isa.17:1 into play.

I’ve seen it get hot around here before but never quiet like this, there are so many things happening and so many of our leaders distracted and trying to save themselves more than protecting the country that we are faced with a different situation today than ever in the past.

I must confess to you that as concerned as I am with what is happening here in Israel and around us, I find myself even more concerned with the need to purchase the larger vessel and prepare to rescue Jews. For what we are about o see in Europe will once again bring Jews to the brink of another holocaust and I know God has called us save many and we must be ready. The only thing that will save Israel is our obedience on an individual basis, and God has called this Ministry to prepare to rescue Jews, we must not be detoured by anything or anyone. We need your help and we need it now.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for our son Joel and all the IDF soldiers. Pray for all those who have come to fight the Islamic enemy. Pray for this ministry and your part in it. Shalom, jerry golden

OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!

WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!

Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.

The lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States thus minimizing consequent support, and it is intended to discourage American citizens.

Jerusalem as a preferred target for Palestinian terrorism
during the five years of violent confrontation 1

Overview
Jerusalem , the capital city of the State of Israel, has a mixed population of Jews and Arabs. The city is surrounded by a large Palestinian population located mostly in two urban centers, Bethlehem and Ramallah. The Palestinians maintain a close relationship with the Jerusalem 's inhabitants, Arabs and Jews.

Since the current violent Palestinian-Israeli confrontation broke out in September 2000, Jerusalem has been a preferred target for Palestinian terrorist attacks . During the five years between September 2000 and October 2005, there have been 635 attacks in Jerusalem , 30 of which were suicide bombing attacks , killing 211 (about 20% of Israeli casualties since September 2000) and wounding 1,643. Most of the 211 killed in terrorist activities in Jerusalem died as victims of suicide bombing attacks (82%) , which made up 5% of all the terrorist actions.

The terrorist organizations have focused on Jerusalem more than any other Israeli city for two main reasons:

• Its symbolic importance as the capital of the State of Israel : for the terrorist organizations, carrying out an attack in the heart of the Israeli capital is likely to make more of an impression and have more media weight than an attack carried out elsewhere.

• The relative ease with which the terrorist organizations can infiltrate operatives into Jerusalem : It is close to Palestinian populated areas and as a mixed city, it is easier for terrorist-operatives to fade into the local population.

This Special Bulletin includes the following:

• Types of terrorist attacks carried out in Jerusalem

• The deaths caused by various types of attacks

• Suicide bombing attacks in Jerusalem

• Involvement of East Jerusalem Arabs in terrorist attacks

• Focusing terrorist attacks on the Jerusalem region since the construction of the security fence

• Appendix

1) List of the suicide bombing attacks in Jerusalem
2) List of the car bomb attacks in Jerusalem

The types of terrorist attacks carried out in Jerusalem
Most of the attacks in Jerusalem during the past five years have been shooting attacks (288 incidents) and Molotov cocktails (220 incidents). However, more notable was the high number of suicide bombing attacks (30), the highest of any Israeli city (the latest of which was in September 2004). It should be noted that the high number of stabbings (31 incidents) is also peculiar to Jerusalem . However, most of the casualties were caused by suicide bombing attacks .

The following chart shows the types of attacks carried out in Jerusalem :

The deaths caused by various types of attacks

The above graph makes it clear that the overwhelming majority of deaths (174 Israelis) were caused by the 30 suicide bombing attacks . Twenty-one civilians were shot to death and nine were stabbed .

Suicide bombing attacks in Jerusalem

Overview

Most of the suicide bombing attacks were carried out against civilian targets . Their aim was to kill indiscriminately as many innocent victims as possible. They achieved their aim in that 174 innocent Israelis were killed in 30 suicide bombing attacks; that is, about 5% of all the terrorist attacks in Jerusalem led to 82% of the deaths .

Most of the suicide bombing attacks (17) were carried out in 2002 . It should be noted that during 2005 there were no such attacks in Jerusalem , although there were attempts which were foiled .

Types of targets

The civilian targets of most of the suicide bombing attacks :

• Urban and inter-urban buses and bus stops were the preferred targets. The most prominent attacks were on the number 2 bus (23 killed, most of them returning from praying at the Western Wall), on the bus in the Gilo neighborhood (19 killed during rush hour) and on the number 14 bus (17 killed).

• Places of entertainment, including restaurants, shopping malls, cafés and clubs : The deadliest attack was at the Sbarro pizzeria (19 killed).

• Populated areas and crowded locations such as markets, pedestrian malls, main streets : Among those carried out in populated areas, the deadliest was at the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall (11 killed).

Suicide bombing attacks according to the distribution of terrorist organizations

An examination of the attacks shows that the various factions of Fatah (Tanzim and Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades) and Hamas carried out most of the attacks. Each of the two organizations was responsible for 13 attacks (33.8%). Lagging behind is the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) (three attacks); one attack was carried out by a non-affiliated terrorist .

It should be noted that the distribution of suicide bombing attacks in Jerusalem is slightly different from the overall distribution of the rest of the country. So far (October 2005) overall Hamas has carried out 57 such attacks , or 40% of the total; the PIJ has carried out 38 , or 25% of the total. Fatah (Tanzim and Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades) 33 attacks , or 23% of the total, but in Jerusalem its attacks, as noted above, equal those of Hamas.

Involvement of East Jerusalem Arabs in terrorist attacks

Since the beginning of the current violent confrontation (September 2000), Arabs who live in East Jerusalem (and carry Israeli ID cards) have been conspicuously involved in terrorist attacks in Israel , particularly in Jerusalem . As a result of their participation, 186 Israelis have been killed and 1,171 wounded . The number of dead is about 20% of all Israelis killed by terrorist activities since September 2000 (of a total of 1,069 killed to date, about 70% of them civilians). 2

Most of the terrorist attacks in which East Jerusalem Arabs were involved were initiated by Hamas infrastructures in Hebron and Ramallah, and those of Fatah/Tanzim in Bethlehem . In recent years residents of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Abu Dis were also involved. One possible reason may be the Abu Dis College (a branch of Al-Quds University ), a source of unrest and a meeting place for Arabs living in Jerusalem and Palestinians from the Palestinian Authority (PA)-administered territories.

East Jerusalem Arabs are involved in the following ways:

• Exploiting their familiarity with the city to collect information and choose potential targets .

• Exploiting their Israeli identity cards to infiltrate terrorists and/or weapons to the terrorist attack targets.

• Direct involvement in the attack .
Palestinians from the PA-administered territories, particularly Samaria , living in the Jerusalem area also aided in carrying out attacks within the green line even though they do not carry documents enabling them to move freely within Israeli territory. However, they are familiar with the area and have close personal, family and social ties with Arabs living in Jerusalem .

One example is the suicide bombing attack attempt at Café Caffit in the German Colony. The attempted attack, directed by the Hamas infrastructure in Hebron , apparently failed because of a technical problem with the detonator. Arab residents of East Jerusalem , having been recruited by Palestinians living in the area , were involved in preparing the attack, helped collect information, pointed out potential targets and drove the suicide bomber to the café .

Focusing terrorist attacks on the Jerusalem region since the construction of the security fence

The purpose of the security fence is first and foremost to complicate and frustrate the attempts of terrorist-operatives to infiltrate Israeli territory . The first section was completed in July 2003, 130 kilometers (about 81 miles ) through Samaria from Elkana to Salem . Concurrently, two other sections were completed north and south of Jerusalem . The second section of 60 kilometers (about 37 miles ), running for Salem to the Jordanian border (south of Kibbutz Tirat Tzvi), is about two-thirds finished. Final construction is expected to be completed in the near future.

An illustration of the security fence (from the Israeli Ministry of Defense's Internet site)
The security fence as it is completed in Samaria makes it difficult for the terrorist infrastructures in the area to infiltrate their operatives into Israel . They therefore try to get around it by using a variety of methods: taking routes through areas where the fence has not yet been built, using the gates built into the fence for the passage of agricultural vehicles and going under the fence or over it.

As long as parts of the security fence have not been completed, Jerusalem is even more attractive as a target for terrorist attacks : compared with Judea and Samaria it is still relatively wide open because the fence does not encircle the city. The Palestinian terrorist organizations regard the area around Jerusalem as an Achilles' heel, a literal “hole in the wall,” which will enable them to infiltrate terrorist-operatives and weapons by avoiding Israel 's network of roadblocks .

The attempts to move terrorist-operative logistic bases from Judea and Samaria to Jerusalem has increased the terrorist organizations' need for support from local residents.

A number of examples of suicide bombing attacks follow (some of them carried out and some of them foiled) in which Jerusalem was either the preferred target or a route from the West Bank to Israel :
• An attack foiled in the Ramot neighborhood : At the end of May 2005, PIJ operatives from Judea handled by the organization's infrastructure in Tulkarm and Jenin attempted to carry out an attack in the Ramot neighborhood. It was to have taken place on a bus or in a café or synagogue. Two suicide bombers arrived in Beit Hanina (about midway between Ramallah and Jerusalem ) from Samaria . Local operatives made a number of attempts to infiltrate them into the city but failed. 3

• On September 22, 2004 a suicide bombing attack was carried out in the French Hill neighborhood by a female terrorist who blew herself up when the border guards examined her. In the attack two border guards were killed and 17 wounded. Responsible for the attack was the Fatah/Tanzim cell in Nablus, which had infiltrated the suicide bomber through Jerusalem and brought her to the French Hill .

An attempt to turn the suicide bomber into a role model: her head lying on the ground near French Hill crossroads on September 22, 2004. The caption under the original pictur reads “the perpetrator of the suicide bombing attack, Zaynab Abu Salem . Her head was severed from her pure body and her headscarf remained to decorate [her face]. Your place is in heaven in the upper skies, oh, Zaynab…sister [raised to the status of heroic] men (Al –Fateh, No. 38, Hamas's children's online magazine…)

• An attack foiled in Afula : On September 22, 2004, a suicide bombing attack in Afula was foiled when a large explosive device was discovered in the region of Deir Hana in the Galilee . It had been intended for use in a joint attack carried out by Fatah/Tanzim and PIJ operatives from the Jenin district . The device was hidden in a sack of flour and transported into Israel by a Palestinian living in Israel . He and his family were brought to Israel by various Palestinian drivers who changed cars and drove on dirt roads and took detours. They went from the village of Yamoun (west of Jenin) through Tulkarm to Jerusalem and from there to the village of Mughar (in the eastern Galilee ) .

• An explosive device detonated at a border guard roadblock : On August 11, 2004, fifteen kilograms ( 33 lbs ) of explosives were detonated at the Qalandia roadblock north of Jerusalem , killing six border police and two civilians. Two Palestinians were also killed and six were wounded. After the attacks, operatives from Jenin were detained. Under interrogation they revealed that their plan had been to infiltrate a suicide bomber for an attack in Haifa , but there were instructions that he was to attack any city in Israel if he could not reach the target. The terrorist came by taxi from the village of Arabeh in the Jenin district . In a second taxi driving behind them there was an explosive device hidden under a crate of vegetables. The two vehicles drove in tandem towards Tulkarm and from there to Ramallah until they reached A-Ram , to the northeast of Jerusalem . In A-Ram the operatives bought a baby carriage to hide the device in until they reached Haifa . When the operatives realized they would not be able to reach there original target, they detonated the device at a Border Guard roadblock .

• An attack foiled at Café Filter: On August 2, 2004, a suicide bombing attack at a café failed when a Fatah/Tanzim operative was arrested. He had planned to carry out the attack at Café Filter, where he worked as a cook. The Palestinian terrorist, 20, single, living in the Bethlehem district, had, as a resident of East Jerusalem , an Israeli ID card . He had been recruited for the suicide bombing attack six months earlier and finally decided to commit it because of psychological pressure caused by suspicions that he had collaborated with Israel . Later, when he saw the explosive belt, he changed his mind and decided not to carry out the attack

Three Christian Teenage Girls Beheaded in Central Sulawesi
11.13.05 (9:39 pm)   [edit]
THREE CHRISTIAN TEENAGE GIRLS BEHEADED IN CENTRAL SULAWESI
In an ongoing terror campaign against the Christians of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, three young teenage girls have been sadistically beheaded by Muslims determined to exterminate the Christian community in this region. Two others were attacked as well but survived although one is in a serious condition. The survivors also had their throats slit.

Since Christmas 1998 the Christians of Central Sulawesi have been subjected to numerous attacks, Christian villages burned down, many churches destroyed, Christian leaders, pastors and community leaders assassinated. The hidden background to all this is the funding of radical Imams, mosques, and Islamic boarding schools by Saudi Arabia. Although Muslims and Christians had good relations for hundreds of years, since the advent of Saudi influence in Indonesia there has been wave after wave of death and destruction.

This past year a lady pastor was executed while preaching in the city of Palu, the Chief Prosecutor was gunned down on the way home from church, a village chief was kidnapped and murdered, farmers were killed by snipers, a bus was bombed, the Tentena market was bombed killing 24 and now three young girls have been beheaded.

This is not the first time Christian children have been specifically targeted for assassination by the Muslim community. In August 2003, six children were shot at from a passing motorcycle in front of the Poso Presbyterian Church (GKI). Two were hit but fortunately both survived. In Duma, Halmahera, on June 19, 2000, 45 children were among 211 massacred in the Evangelical Church (GMIH). Some were just babies not even 2 years old.

The most recent attack took place among the cacao trees just 1 mile from the village of Sayo. Police spokesman, Rais Adam, confirmed the discovery of the headless bodies. One of their heads was subsequently found in front of the Pentecostal Church (GPdI) in the village of Kasiguncu, 8 miles, from where the bodies were found. The remaining two heads were found soon afterward near the police station at Kilo 9 (5 miles from Poso).

Upon hearing news of the attack President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, condemned the attack as sadistic and immediately called a Cabinet meeting. As a result the Indonesian Chief of Police, General Sutanto and the Deputy Head of the Indonesian Intelligence Agency, Mr. Asad, were immediately dispatched to Poso. The President also called upon the security forces to hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime and to process them according to the laws of the land.

Unfortunately the people of Poso have heard this rhetoric many times before but nothing happens! The people of Poso have suffered many brutal attacks but the perpetrators have never been arrested and punished? The flags are flying at half mast as the District of Poso mourns the lost in another savage tragedy.
